The 1142 that I am refreshing does not have the adjustment knob. In fact my 87 312-8 does not have one either. Myself and 3 coworkers bought 4 312-8's from the same dealer the same day. They kept telling me about an adjustment knob as time went on. I said I didn't have one which they didn't believe. But I don't. I have the big axles while I know 2 of  theirs don't. I think WH maybe just used parts up at the end of the model year. I dunno.

Appears the Dial-A-Height was first added to some of the 1970 manual lift models.

By 1985 it was a Dial-A-Hite and optional on some models and standard on others. Posted 2 files with the applications for 1985-1989.

If I find more I will edit this post so it is all in one place.

Other than the place where the adjustment holds the height, these were on the manual lift tractors before 1970. I have a 1965 and 2 1967 tractors that came with them.

My GT-1100 has the 1" axles and no dial-a-height (and its missing a few other parts as well). Its one of my quietest tractors :eusa-whistle:  .

Very quiet indeed I bet. Lol. Hows that upper dash Mike? Any cracks? I need a decent one for my 1142 refresh. Mine is toast.

Looks great, real quiet! A little sand blasting, grinding, hand sanding, heavy duty primer, and you'll be in heaven!  :laughing-rofl:

@ Wishin4a416>> Believe it or not I sent these pics to a guy and he wants my ultra-rare GT-1100. Its leaving here just the way you see it (upper dash and all) in the pics soon.

You are correct. I was using the reverse lookup at Toro and that no longer works because they have removed almost all the pre-1970 tractor parts lists.

Looks like the Dial-A-Height started in 1963 on most models.

Picked up the poor Work Horse just before dark. The Horse hasn't been used in eight years, parked in a barn. At the time the little Stallion did not have any mechanical issues.

The owner had health problems, a groundskeeping crew took over while the Horse stayed in the barn till I convinced the owner, "Geeze, I've always wanted a Work Horse. Please, please, please :bow-blue: ".

The Work Horse was purchased new and, so I'm told, only mowing (one acre) turf.

The Redbone (as in Leon Redbone) gave it to me, "Just pick it up." My son, grandson and I did.

Original destination was scrap yard. Oh No! Not that! The poor Horsey needs a lovin' home!

Here's how she looks, we stopped under gas station lights for this picture, for our "love at first sight".  :woohoo:

post-8021-0-89925600-1411263374_thumb.jp.

PS. No dial-a-height, might add one during the restore.

A bucket of suds and some time with a sponge and you might not have to restore it.

Looks alright to me.

Yes "we" struck gold. Great feeling saving an old Horse!

What color gray paint, off-the-shelf, is a good match?

The old Horse is runnin', slight tap or knock.

The tap sounds as if under the drive belt guard. The peek-a-boo'll have to wait till later.

My son did mow 1/4 acre gently with the 48" SD deck. Sounds great and looks as if it was a replacement.

Belts are Kevlar probably Huskee from TSC. Same belts I use, inexpensive and hold up well.

Just as soon as the mechanicals are done a visit to redoyourhorse.com; excellent service and quality to boot! Paint, all want to stay with the gray, black, whatever.

Any help with the gray paint selection will be appreciated.   :)

The '90 520-8 in my stable was sandblasted and Rustoleum Regal Red (rattle cans). Came out great.

As always, "Garry to the rescue!"

You're a encyclopedia of WH information!

I found some numbers, any information would be welcome fo' sure!

The deck, I believe, newer than the Work Horse, looks too nice. ID # 78361. With the height adjust, on the left, 48"?

The Work Horse ID number, very hard to read, # A1164202  11481.  :eusa-think:

Work on the Work Horse is moving along quickly.

The deck is "mint", stored it for the time being.

Unsure of what gray to use, picked up Rustoleum Smoke Gray. How's it look?
