K301 exhaust "head" question

Recommended Posts

just something I noticed and not sure if its an issue or just the way it is. when I blow air into my exhaust port to check valve seats air comes out one of the head bolt holes nearest the exhaust port. I thought for sure at first my valve wasn't seating till I realized, I have never noticed this before "then again never used the air method to check seats.  I cant really see what it could hurt but, thought I would just ask before I reassemble.

The head bolt hole you are referring to is not a "blind hole". It opens into the exhaust port.

Everything you describe is normal. Once the head is on, the port is sealed by the bolt.

That particular head bolt is the one that is susceptible to the most heat and can give you a problem on engines

that have some miles on them.

Always coat head bolt threads with never seize when reassembling.

Thank you, I figured it had to be "normal"  just thought it was strange. Considering thats where most of the dirt hides in the fins and with this added to it, I can see where it would be a weak spot.
