SPIKE66 0 #1 Posted September 10, 2014 HI GUYS, IM NEW TO THE WHEEL HORSE TRACTORS AND NEED A LITTLE HELP. I JUST PURCHASED TWO D2OO TRACTORS, ONE HAS THE 20hp KOHLER AND I THINK THE OTHER HAS THE 18hp KOHLER. THE ENGINE TAG IS MISSING ON THE ONE THAT I THINK IS THE 18hp. BOTH ENGINES LOOK THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AND CARB MANIFOLDS. THE ONE WITH THE MISSING TAG HAS TWO CAST IRON EXHAUSTMANIFOLDS WITH THREADS. THE 20hp HAS METAL EXHAUST TUBES THAT BOLT TO THE ENGINE AND ARE BENT TO THE MUFFLERS. WOULD YOU GUYS KNOW IF THE ENGINE WITHOUT THE TAG IS 18hp? OR DID ALL THE D200'S HAVE 20hp ENGINES? THE ENGINE THAT I THINK IS 18hp KOHLER ALSO HAS BAD PISTON, BAD ROD AND BAD CRANK. THE OTHER PISTON IS OK BECAUSE THE ENGINE WILL RUN ON THE ONE GOOD CYLINDER. NEED TO KNOW IF THE CRANK, PISTON ROD IS THE SAME FOR BOTH 18hp & 20hp? IM GUESSIING THE PISTONS ARE NOT THE SAME. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.
"D"- Man 827 #2 Posted September 10, 2014 If I am not mistaken the Kohler K482 = 18 Hp, the Kohler K532 = 20 Hp and the Kohler K582 = 23 Hp. The crankshafts were all the same stroke, the bores were successively larger {although the blocks were all the same otherwise.} It may be possible for one to have a sort of round tubular style intake manifold, while the other has a "squared" style cast aluminum intake manifold. I am certain all D-200's came equipped with the 20 Hp Kohler twins. I cannot answer the question about the differences in the exhaust mountings as I have only seen the kind that bolt on with the two bolts. I know that Wheel Horse also produced a model D-160 with a twin cylinder, however; it was an Onan, which would not interchange parts with the Kohler twins. Here are a couple of pics of the square style Kohler intake manifold, and the two bolt exhaust port area, Mark.
SPIKE66 0 #3 Posted September 10, 2014 THANKS MARK. ONE DOES HAVE THE CAST MANIFOLD AND THE OTHER WITH THE TUBE MANIFOLD. BOTH MY D200'S HAVE THE REAR 3 POINT HITCH AND REAR PTO. ONE ALSO HAS THE REAR DUAL BRAKES. MY GUESS IS THEY BOTH HAVE THE KOHLER 20hp ENGINES.
