Bet you never had this happen!

Well, while mowing with the 314-8 I noticed it was a little noisey...maybe even on the previous mow. As I'm making an approach between the yard I was mowing and the neighboring driveway, I catch a pulley scooting across the drive. I stop and look at the front mule drive. The nut, guard and spacer are missing. Now here is the weird part. My son and I looked high and low everywhere we mow and it is nowhere to be found. 2 weeks later and nothing. I'm thinking about putting a picture on some milk cartons to see if it turns up!

Man! As big as that mule drive guard is you had to run over it. Have you looked in the deck baffle to see if it got stuck in there? Sorry about the bad luck.

If it had that momentum and went scooting across the drive there's no telling how far it went!

I lost one in use but it took about 1 second to know it came a part. The pulleys stayed on but the guard got under the deck and, well........you know the rest of the story.

i was mowing one night just about dark or a little later. had the head lights on and my son was helping on another tractor in the lower yard when the mower hit something. i immediately shut the deck down and backed up, but couldn't see anything my son came up and asked what was wrong and i told him i hit something HARD.told him lets just put them away  and finish tomorrow. so he drove around the pine tree and stop and came back carrying something and asked what was it. i looked and said that's my belt guard with several big slices in it from going through the blades. don't know if i ever found the nut or spacer though. i showed the kids the heavy steel belt guard and told them if the blades can do this much damage to steel just imagine what they would do to your arms, legs or feet. it was a good visual effect and i hope makes a lasting impression.

Maybe this is a dumb suggestion but did you check on top of the deck, underside of the tractor?

Was mowing with the 655 one day which I almost never do as the gear drive deck is loud as hell.  Anyways the double pulley on the attachment shaft decides to fall off before I could get the tractor stopped the deck rattles itself out of the attachment point.  ANd as you know all this stuff is right next to your leg and exposed.  Just glad I didn't get wrapped up in it
