nhunt308 143 #29 Posted September 9, 2014 Well the briggs has no compression. Been looking into the hf predator motors for some temporary power
Wayne 28 #30 Posted September 9, 2014 you could always start with a briggs 5 horse block from jegs or summit and go from there... reference to the jr dragster section of course...
Geno 1,929 #31 Posted September 9, 2014 Has it been sitting awhile? Maybe it just has a stuck valve.
nhunt308 143 #32 Posted September 9, 2014 I wondered about that too. Also wondered about the rings.
Wayne 28 #33 Posted September 9, 2014 can you do a cylinder leakage test on one of these? i would guess you could find tdc compression with your finger rolling it over and then a screwdriver to get it to the exact (or close enough) top.
Geno 1,929 #34 Posted September 9, 2014 Can you see the valves through the spark plug hole? If it's a valve stuck open and you get that fixed and can get it running the rings may come back by themselves if there's not any water damage you can see in there. nhunt308 143 #35 Posted September 11, 2014 Thought the exaust valve was stuck but I was wrong. . Pulled the head and no movement of the piston... more news to come.. but I think im gonna say goodbye to the briggs and shelf it for a later project. Gonna be starting a restore thread before to long

Molon_Labe 731 #37 Posted September 11, 2014 Sorry about the Briggs but that doesn't take anything away from the tractor. Nice find!
