Black hood question

Recommended Posts

Was there a short frame and long frame version of the black hoods? Reason I ask is that I just got the C175 my dad worked on and the hood on the left side is cut out around the motor and has louvers in the top. I dont think it is the right hood as my dad could have changed it. I do remember trimming a hood for him but that was around 4 years and 12 tractors ago. Just wondering. I think the rest of the tractor is correct.

Interesting. That one has an older C-Series lift cylinder indicator on the left side above the foot rest and I've never seen that on a black hood.

That is a B-Series hood from the Black Hood era.

Thanks John. That might explain why it is shorter, I guess. Im doing a lot of guessing with my dad's stuff. But thats half the fun of it.

I do too. I am leaving it that way. Not feeling the seat though.

To the 'untrained' eye that would look original. Nice job fitting it around the engine. I agree with leaving it. I also agree about the seat :)

That's a cool looking old tractor and if my Dad had a hand in crafting it into what it is, I wouldn't change a thing. The closest thing we had to a garden tractor when I was a kid was a 2 wheel Bolens with a sickle mower. I wish I had it now.

Thanks for all the help and the comments.I really have no plans for it at this time other than trying to get it running. It will get a restore later. The only thing I will change will be the seat. I am getting a 20 x 8 wooden deck from my dad's house that he used to store them on. Just have to disassemble it,bring it home on the trailer and put it back together.Going to build a roof over it to keep them dry.
