tgranthamfd 29 #1 Posted August 28, 2014 Kohler 14hp single, aluminum point plunger bent so badly it would not come out. Broke it trying to get it out. so what is the best, next step? Pull the engine and tear it down? Beat the aluminum plunger until it drops in the pan? Drilling is out of the question, it didn't break off even. What should I try next? oldredrider 2,553 #3 Posted August 28, 2014 Open it up FIRST! Remove the cam. You don't want to punch against the cam lobe.
tgranthamfd 29 #4 Posted August 28, 2014 Thanks guys. Looks like either way I need to pull the engine and crack it open, then!
rmaynard 16,552 #5 Posted August 28, 2014 Might be a silly question, but how did it get so badly bent?
tgranthamfd 29 #6 Posted August 30, 2014 Might be a silly question, but how did it get so badly bent? Good question, maybe the Oklahoma heat, I checked all fluids, added gas, mowed the back yard, shut down, topped off the hydro and engine oil, started on the front yard, and about half way through it kind of popped and died. No spark and the points would not open or close. Tried to pull the plunger out and it would not come out! Had to replace one before but I don't know if it was this engine? It was over a 100 degrees that afternoon!
