520H4me 0 #1 Posted October 6, 2008 I used to have a 520H. With that one, I'd press hard on the brake and then turn the little lever and the parking brake would be set. On this 520 that I recently purchased, I can't get the lever to lock into place. I press the brake, turn the lever, but it does not catch like I am used to. Any suggestions? jusjeepn 59 #2 Posted October 6, 2008 Pull the frame cover and check to see that the dog is engaging when you turn the park brake lever. The lever lock is located just under that cover and is readily accessable.
kj4kicks 154 #3 Posted October 6, 2008 It needs adjusted, or it's missing some pieces. Check your PM. Thanks, E.

htopjimmy26 3 #5 Posted October 7, 2008 The brake may be adjusted up too much and not allowing the lever to engage the dog, seems as though I had to back one off a little after I bought it because of same problem. :banghead:
hodge 6 #6 Posted October 7, 2008 To go a step further, when I bought my 520, the brake drum was either too worn down, or the band was too big, because someone had previously tighened the nut on the brake shaft all the way down, and it still didn't grab. Needless to say, the parking brake lock wouldn't engage, either. I bought a used brake assembly off a 417, which works perfectly, and I adjusted the nut back enough that the catch would work. Somebody has probably monkeyed with yours, too. you'll like this bunch- they are the best around!
