posifour11 723 #1 Posted August 22, 2014 I know jachady uses his for tilling. But, does anyone else use their horses for work? I'm about to start using mine for my property preservation business. Other than accelerated maintenance, I think it'll be fine.
ben06351 19 #2 Posted August 22, 2014 I do. We here at Algiere's Landscaping still rely on the trusty 1989 520HC. It with the Cyclone Rake is the backbone of fall clean up team.

Not to hijack the thread, but can you post a picture of your hitch assembly on the 520HC that you have the Cyclone Rake attached to?
Geno 1,928 #4 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) I don't but I would if I could! I make a little in the shop repairing them for people. I do make a small amount on the ones I have sold, if I don't count my time that is. Does that count? Edited August 22, 2014 by Geno

Row Cropper 50 #7 Posted August 23, 2014 Last winter we had more than our usual amount of snow, so I was kept very busy clearing driveways in my immediate neighborhood. I have about 8 to 10 on my "route" and they all appreciate the work that my 520 with 54" blade does for them. Some pay me and others barter with computer repair, baked goods or other compensation. As we all know, I would gladly do it for the "seat time" but I am very happy to take any form of payment as a bonus!

Wheel-N-It 2,967 #12 Posted August 31, 2014 I don't use my Wheel Horses to make a living, but lately I'm thinking I make a living just to buy more Wheel Horses

posifour11 723 #14 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) My b-80 is doing well so far. Its paid for the belts I bought, already. And uses about the same gas as my push mower! Edited August 31, 2014 by posifour11
boovuc 1,090 #15 Posted August 31, 2014 I use my Wheelhorses to rob me of my living's wages. (But they are worth it......most times).
jsp_333 222 #16 Posted August 31, 2014 Like a lot of us here I usually end clearing snow for the neighbours, I've also been known to do the road as well. It seems like I just get her warmed up and the job is done at home. I don't use it to make a living, but my 414-8 and blower got me to bid on our church's snow clearing contract. I've thought more than once about driving around the neighbourhood in the winter or with a tiller in the spring to go looking for cash. cheers
Challenger 27 #17 Posted August 31, 2014 Our Wheel Horse products are used most days in our property management business and in our sunflower farm production. These machines are key tools that provide many of the services (snow removal, lawn cutting, leaf pick-up, etc.) that our residential customers expect. Our sunflower enterprise is enhanced through the use of Wheel Horse rototillers, cultivators, discs, etc.
whc160 74 #18 Posted August 31, 2014 I don't know that I make money with my horse's. But they earn there keep by doing gardens in the spring and snow removal in the winter. I put the money they earn right back into them or on new attachments for them.
can whlvr 991 #19 Posted September 1, 2014 I don't make a living with them but have used them on job sites hundreds of times, friday I had one of the 414,s at work leveling gravel in a large workshop that we are putting a concrete floor on,i use them to go where the skid steer cant, and for cleaning up tile beds, they are light and wont damage it,a few years ago I had one on a job for 6 months, plowing snow, dirt, hauling garbage and supplies
Pocketraisins 11 #20 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) Since I am now retired, I often thought of driving to our small city with the trailer, 520-H and snow plow/blade after an appreciable snow and just going door to door. At ten or fifteen dollars a pop, one block would make a nice tidy sum especially if they wanted to pay extra to have the curb line snow blown back into their front yard for extra parking. I was surprised how many people pay to have a small drive, walkway and driveway cleared and the prices they will pay. At ten to fifteen bucks, they will be following me probably! Not exactly MAKING a living, but certainly a way to supplement one. Edited September 2, 2014 by Pocketraisins
RMCIII 838 #21 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) Winter time is when the money flys... Not that I am looking to get rich, but man, when you just drive it down the street after a fresh snow fall, people beg to give you money to clear their driveway...... I'm not one to reject charity, so, I'll take it and use it for upkeep...... We all know that these horses sure don't eat HAY! posifour11 723 #23 Posted September 19, 2014 Just thought I'd bring this one back up. I was cruising through a yard that I used to push mow, thinking to myself " this is my job!" I sharpen the blades every couple days and have changed the oil a couple times. That little engine is doing great. The whole tractor looks like a war-torn country but keeps going. As I finished up that job, a guy pulled up to the neighbor's place with a zero turn and started zipping around. I was a tad jealous. But then I thought to myself, "get a horse!" He's making much better time on a job, but not having the fun! Plus, he's paid more than $125 for his mower. Mowing is just part of my work. I couldn't justify something like that if I wanted.
