jrandyg 44 #1 Posted August 6, 2014 Hi all, Working out some of the kinks and getting things ready for a test fire. Points and condenser appear to be OK. Cleaned up the valves and combustion chamber. The timing key was sheared, but those are easy to find or make. Carb is cleaned and also appears to functioning properly. Now is battery time. Not finding much in the way of literature about battery size, cranking amps and such. Can you send me your thoughts and opinions? 1966 656 Tecumseh 6 horse. I WILL be putting a lighter in Thanks, Randy
rmaynard 16,211 #2 Posted August 6, 2014 My 857 and former 856 both had U1 size, 300 CCA batteries from the Battery Warehouse. They are more than sufficient to handle your needs. You just need to determine if you need left (+), or right (+) terminal configuration.

Save Old Iron 1,571 #4 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) Unless you have specific concerns or questions, ANY lawn and garden battery will be more than sufficient for a 6hp engine. A cigarette lighter isn't a concern for an LG battery. Choose the right size for your battery holder, then choose the proper terminal orientation then figure paying about $20 per year of useful life ( $20 battery will last 2 years, $100 battery will last about 5 years).
