267H fuel issues

Recommended Posts

Hey all, back again. So I got the issue fixed from a month ago. Turns out the PTO switch was bad. Put everything back together, new filters all the way around, fresh oil and no extra parts :) and got the entire lawn mowed. Yesterday I started it up, made 1 pass around the front yard and the mower deck belt broke. So I hopped off to check what had happened, confirmed broken belt, hop back on and it won't start... :banghead:  It cranks, but no start. Take off air filter housing cover, remove air filter, dump gas right in carb and it runs... until it uses up the gas in the carb, then it dies. It seems like there is a fuel delivery issue. And before someone asks, yes, the fuel filter I replaced is oriented in the proper direction with the arrow pointing towards the engine... uh, right? Does this machine have a fuel pump? There is a square silver box attached to the engine housing that has fuel lines going into and coming out (pre-carb) of that I can't identify. Pump, perhaps? Any ideas or troubleshooting steps I should take to eliminate various things? Thanks in advance!

Ahhh... I just figured out what the square silver box is. The fuel pump! How do I troubleshoot the fuel pump? Does it need primed? Is it electrical? Fused?

The 267 has a fuel pump but always check the easy fixes first.

Is there a valve at the bottom of the fuel tank? Is it shut off? If it's open, is their debris at the bottom of the tank? Is there a screen at the bottom of the fuel tank that maybe plugged? Is the fuel filter, (if present), plugged?

If all this is OK............pull the fuel line before the carburetor and face it away from any organic or carbon based unit and crank the engine. Does it spit a decent amount of fuel? Nothing at all?

If nothing at all, then you have a fuel pump issue.

I have a little quarter of a gallon tank with a shutoff valve I use to test the fuel pump. Just put some gas in it then hold it above the carb with a fuel line attached to the carb intake. Gravity will feed the carb gasoline enough to run the motor. If the motor runs but doesn't run when using the tractor's own fuel supply, you have diagnosed the issue.

Fuel line was pinched between gas tank and frame. Probably made all the difference when I filled the tank yesterday, because I ran it twice since putting it all back together from the PTO switch problem. Go figure... Thanks boovuc!

Is the fuel line original? If so whenever you can replace it. They do break down over time.
