JustinW.73 224 #1 Posted July 27, 2014 Hey everyone. After a few months of searching I have finally found a snowblower about two hours away from where I live. He wants 50 bucks for it and I thought it was a great deal but wanted to check with you guys before I get it. It looks good. No rotting. It is the single stage short chute. He said that the control cable is not there. Is that to control the direction of the chute? If so would it be easy to make? Some pictures of that would be great. By the way, I have a 73' raider 12, will it fit on it. Its an 8 speed not a hydro. Some pictures would be great of your tractor especially if it is similar to mine. Geno 1,928 #2 Posted July 27, 2014 Does he have a pic of it you can post? I would love to find one for 50.00. The control cable is an easy fix, it turns the chute.
JustinW.73 224 #3 Posted July 28, 2014 Here it is. I haven't called him yet so I don't know if the lifting rod is with it. Can those be made easily?
Geno 1,928 #4 Posted July 28, 2014 It will work with your Raider. As it is I would give 50.00 for it as is in a second. It's worth that for parts. There should be 2 extensions that bolt on the front on each end where the 3 loose bolts are on each side in the pic to funnel snow in. Lifting rods aren't hard to make. If you go look at it make sure the blower spins freely.
diamondred 63 #5 Posted July 28, 2014 Better look for some wheel weights as well , those blowers are heavy. Great deal though!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,522 #6 Posted July 28, 2014 Suspect this snowthrower is 1983 or newer since it has skids instead of wheels. Garry
AMC RULES 36,954 #7 Posted July 28, 2014 Well worth the money.
Ed Kennell 35,929 #8 Posted July 28, 2014 $50...that would be the price for a new WH belt. Push rods and flags are easy to make. I found my blowers work better without the side extensions. They make it hard to steer. After the first pass, the extension wants to pull the tractor into the snow too hard. Picture hanging wire cable works for the chute control. Don't walk....run for it. JustinW.73 224 #9 Posted July 28, 2014 Better look for some wheel weights as well , those blowers are heavy. Great deal though! Ya. Might have to make a rear weight box. I think I would be pushing my luck trying to find wheel weights. Suspect this snowthrower is 1983 or newer since it has skids instead of wheels. Garry Is there too much of a difference? I have a cement drive. I've been talking about this blower with an older friend and he was saying the same thing as geno about its worth that in parts. I decided I am getting it. Just have to get a hold of the guy. Lets go!
JustinW.73 224 #10 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Good news! I got a hold of the guy and he said he had the lift rod for it so it looks like I will be getting a snowblower! I think he also has the flag that goes on the sides. But I think I would take em off anyway. As Geno said It will work with your Raider. Lets just hope it spins freely. Of course he said he hardly used it. edit- I almost forgot, the same older friend I was talking about in my other post has the cable. Looks like I'm set! Geno 1,928 #11 Posted July 28, 2014 Congratulations! The pole for lifting is actually 2 pieces. There is a long pole about 4 feet long and a shorter piece that slides inside of it about a foot long for the lift. The flag is what a lot of people call the shorter piece because it has a piece welded to it that makes the piece look like a flag.
JustinW.73 224 #12 Posted July 28, 2014 Ya I knew about the lifting pole being two pieces.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #13 Posted August 1, 2014 I actually found another snow blower yesterday for my 5xi. Tall shoot. Single stage. It was bought new and used 2 times. It's mint. Glenn

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,522 #18 Posted August 3, 2014 Is there too much of a difference? I have a cement drive. The same basic snowthrower was sold 1973 until at least 2007 with subtle changes over the years. Without a model number we look for changes to try and identify the age of it. A skid will wear out faster than a wheel on concrete unless you can keep a layer of ice on the surface. Here that layer of ice is about 3" thick by spring.
