gary m 4 #1 Posted July 24, 2014 Hello everyone, I am new to this great site, I am 68 and until yesterday my main tractor was a Simplicity. This machine is also a great unit, the problem I have with it is in the winter time when I switch to the plow and have to turn the blade, I have to get off and move said plow. Since I'm getting up their in age and I've had long time back problems, I wanted to get a Wheel horse, the problem is that I had to buy used. I live in Ct., I went to Mass. and bought a used plow for a wheel horse (at this point I didn't own a wheel horse), I paid $175.00, it came with weights and chains, all in excellent shape. I thought about trying to conform this plow to the Simplicity, but that was not going to work. So I found a used Wheel horse with nothing but the tractor (just what I needed), I paid $325.00 for it. Hour meter is 750. I bought a Toro Wheel Horse Classic 310-8speed, Kohler Magnum 10 #'s on plate 311ok801 10589 USA 9242 South Bend Now the Questions, 1. What does it mean 8 speed when there's only a low and high position 2. When brake is in off position the pedal is really far back, is this normal? 3. I will be using this unit only for plowing snow, will this unit do the job? 4. What oil should I use in it. 5. What year is this unit. 6. Where do you get extra keys made 7. Reverse is included with the 3 forward speeds making 4, High and low of those make 8 different speeds. 2. Depends, if you can not set the parking brake then someone adjusted it too tight, if you can set the brake it's ok. 3. Absolutely. It will run a snow blower well also. 4. I've used Mobile 10W-30 in mine for 27 years but peoples opinions differ on oils. 5. We need the model number from under the left side of the seat on the fender panel to find out. 6. Foozerush 40 #3 Posted July 24, 2014 Welcome to RS! Your 310-8 should do just fine plowing snow. I just got a 310-8 this spring for the rental, so I'm getting to know mine little by little. When you got your plow, did you get the rear axel bracket? Need that to attach plow to tractor. Chains and weights will help traction for pushing that fluff. When I bought the Wheel Horse I made a deal with the owner that he would install the plow and weights and chains, which he did. I will take some pics tomorrow and post them tomorrow, it needs cleaning, that I can do! Again I really do appreciate the help, if anyone has the leather cover, for that seat, or a cover, for sale let me know, mines needs help, the frame and foam are ok.
