wheelhorse-c-161-1979 117 #1 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) I have a 1973 Auto 18 that I have been bringing to life, over the last several months. I have an ARK FEL and decided to swap out the original axle and spindles, with the beefier axle with 1" spindles I just bought. (see pics) Problem I have no idea where to get a wheel / hub combo that would fit my WH stock D series 1" spindles. From the Wheel Horse Manuals it would seem that the correct tire size would be a 18x8:50. Problem is that the newer converntional hubs won't fit the non flared 1" diameter spindle design. (pic above) I want to remove the axle with ¾" spindle that I have on now. It was modified by the previous owner to fit standard trailer wheels and hubs. I don't like the way it handles and those tires are too thin and too small. (see pics) Meanwhile my goats don't seem to care and get along fine with the Wheel Horse!! Seriously… what are your suggestions on how to proceed? My first instinct would be to keep it stock. But then I need to find original wheels that fit this spindle. Anybody have a set for sale? Any guidance greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jack Edited July 17, 2014 by wheelhorse-c-161-1979
Don1977 605 #2 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) You already have the 4 bolt hubs any 4 bold trailer rims will fit. They make 8" by 7" wide rims for 18.5 x 8 tires or the new size 215/60 x 8 tires . Northern Tool & Equipment, most any trailer supply, Miller Tire will have the rims. I suggest you get a 4 or 6 ply rated tires. wheelhorse-c-161-1979 117 #3 Posted July 17, 2014 No those are from the old ¾ axle and spindle I want to remove. I bought a beefier axle that has 1" spindles. Now I need the wheels and tires. Thanks!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,472 #4 Posted July 17, 2014 I've never heard of a 3/4" trailer axle so maybe the hubs already have 1" bearings bushed down to fit a 3/4" spindle. You may have the 1" spindles the previous owner didn't have. Garry
Tankman 3,523 #5 Posted July 17, 2014 (edited) You might take a peek-a-boo here. http://www.mfgsupply.com/gomini/gominihubs/100h-w1.html PS: Grew up on the Island. Prefer the South Shore, Suffolk. Sister on the North Shore is a bit "in the air" (nose up ). Edited July 17, 2014 by Tankman
baerpath 517 #6 Posted July 17, 2014 Use your hubs and change the bearings to 1 inch then get new wider rims
