Jman6 1 #1 Posted September 30, 2008 For those of you that know my story thanks for all the support! Those that don't, well I am not a wrench turner kind of guy. Give me computer parts and I can give you a working computer in a hour or so. That said, I got the wheelhorse running, was not too tough, took the fuel pump off, took it apart, cleaned it out, fired right up and ran great! I recently have been using it and even changed the oil, did manage to spill oil all over the garage, but the wife has not seen it so I can blame it on her old car. My problem is this. I was checking the oil today, it was below the L on the stick, so I added about 1/4 to 1/2 a quart. Now it smokes a bunch when you first start it. No biggy, figure it is just overfilled, will siphon some out and should be good there. My big problem is that I noticed a leak just at the fuel pump, I figure it is oil and so I went to tighten the right bolt, and it just spins, I think and hope it is just a stripped bolt and not the engine block itself. If it is the engine block I am assuming I will have to have it retapped? (think that is the right term.) Was gonna take it off to check it but had to take the wife and kids to dinner so did not have times. Does anyone know is this a expensive thing and if it is the engine block then should I even bother, it is a very slow leak, not even enough to make a drip on the floor yet. I know I should have it fixed, but am wondering if I keep the oil at the right level will it last the winter with it the way it is, or is it just going to get worse? Thanks, in advance, Jman
kj4kicks 154 #2 Posted September 30, 2008 Hi Jman, If the hole in the block is stripped, it can easily be repaired with a thread insert (one brand is Heli-Coil). It's a simple fix. Drill the hole slightly oversize, tap it, and install the insert. Hint: use a magnet when you drill it out to keep metal shavings out of the engine. As for it lasting over the winter, that depends. With most of the stress now on the other bolt, it's not good for the pump. It could warp it, or even break it. Good luck with it! E.
