tarcoleo 119 #1 Posted July 11, 2014 Recently bought a 6-year MTD Yard Bug with a 9 hp B&S vertical engine. Starts up and runs fine but has a minor oil leak from where I haven't yet figured. Cute it is but all indications are that the machine is an SOB to work on. So my question is do any of the additives sold as cures for oil leaks really work and which is most likely to do the job? boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted July 11, 2014 Nope! They do not cure leaks! period. If the engine calls for a 10w-30, you could try a straight 30w and see if it helps at your own risk to the top end of the engine.
ol550 829 #3 Posted July 11, 2014 Work? NO, Most only work by softening sealing materials. MIGHT get you through the season.
WH nut 553 #4 Posted July 11, 2014 Rebuilds in a can never work
tarcoleo 119 #5 Posted July 11, 2014 Thanks you'll. I looked at on-line reviews of the various "rebuilds in a can" and it is like the story you advised. The bug (if you thought I planned to cut grass with it) will be personal tranportation around the property. Thanks again.
