rzeigler 0 #1 Posted September 29, 2008 Hello gentlemen I have just purchased a 62 lawn ranger for a restor project to do with my two boys and during the tear down we came across a few problems that I'm hoping you can help with. 1. the bottom steering bracket that stradles the frame rails is broken and the previous ownerr tried to weld it but he wasn't very succesful with it. Is this something anybody might have a spare laying around or can I still get a new one from a dealer. I would rather us a good old one. Are these the same on most of the wheel horses or did they change with model years? 2. the 3/4" rod the foot rest go on can somebody tell me what the overall length should be because mine seems to have been cut or something because on the right side my foot rest won't go on far enough for the foot rest set screw to engage the rod but the other side is fine with the clutch/brake pedal and footrest. sorry for being so long winded but I appreciate all your help. I will post pics of the basket case as sson as I can get them down sized.

CasualObserver 3,411 #3 Posted September 29, 2008 sounds to me like you're missing the tube that extends the right side. The 62 and 63 Lawn Rangers had an extra piece on the right side. Check out this thread... about 1/2 way down the page... it shows the diagram.

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted September 29, 2008 Here's another post that contains information about the right footrest tube on the '62/'63 Lawn Rangers. .....broken link.....
rzeigler 0 #6 Posted September 30, 2008 So if I'm reading this right the right side only has the footrest tube not a platform like the left side. And this is only a 3/4" I.D. piece of pipe with a set screw of some sort within the first 1 1/2" and a cap on the end and the total length is 9 inches. If so this should be an easy fix. Is this do to the lift for impliments/mower deck or just to simplify? Thanks for the help guy's. :banghead:
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #7 Posted September 30, 2008 The tubular footrest extension for the right side is just that - a piece of 3/4" I.D. tubing with a nut welded to the outside near one end, and a 5/16" bolt to tighten against the stub on the frame. (outer end is not closed in) My 32E did not have anything on the left side either - only the piece of 3/4" round stock sticking out past the brake/clutch pedal. Perhaps since the footrests stuck down below the pegs there may have been deck clearance issues. (with the deck raised) I don't have a clue as to why the right peg was cut off so short unless it was for deck drive belt clearance. (which was later addressed in 1964 by putting the downward kink in the footrest mounting peg.) I actually think it was assumed that the operator would rest his/her feet on the top of the deck. If you really want footrests or stirrups on the '62/'63 models, I guess you could always make a short sleeve to go over the stub and then weld a piece of 3/4" round stock in the outer end for the footrest. Here's another picture of the mounting bolt for the extension:
