Kelly 1,033 #1 Posted July 6, 2014 Ok I have a question, Briggs 16hp twin from a Work horse 1642 I sold the tractor with no engine, then just the other day sold the engine, it ran great and charged the batt, the guy that bought the engine put it in another brand tractor, and is trying to figure out the charging system, the leads off the engine are putting out DC voltage, it should be AC, then changed at the volt reg, to DC I'm not at the engine and he says there is no volt reg on the engine, I can't find a wiring diagram for it. So the question is is the charging system regulated at the stator ? or does someone have a wiring diagram. Thanks

Sparky-(Admin) 22,917 #3 Posted July 6, 2014 Is it not like the 11hp Briggs which has a dual charging setup? One set of leads are DC and go directly to the lights and the lights get brighter or dimmer as you rev the engine up and down and the other set of leads (not sure if AC or DC) are for charging the battery. Maybe he has only found one set of charging leads? Mike..........
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #4 Posted July 6, 2014 Garry Suspect one lead should have a diode in the engine harness.
