JOHNCONNER 0 #1 Posted July 5, 2014 I have a Model 72042 and yesterday, for the first time ever, it stopped running after 30 minutes. Outside temp was about 80F. I replaced with fresh gas, checked fuel filter, but then experienced the same problem. After stalling, it will not restart until next morning. Ideas?
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #2 Posted July 5, 2014 When it stopped running, was it an abrupt stop like turning off the key, or more like running out of gas? There have been cases where the gas cap vent becomes plugged and will starve the engine of fuel. If that's not the case, is it still getting spark when it stops? stevasaurus 23,276 #3 Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) It could be your coil is bad. It will stop the engine when it gets hot...usually it will start again after 20 or 30 minutes and run until it warms up again. Check your fuel system first, or if you have a spare coil...or one on another tractor...switch them out and see. BTW...Welcome to Red Square. Edit to say...forget what I said about the coil...you don't have one. Edited July 5, 2014 by stevasaurus
546cowboy 302 #4 Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) Just what tractor do you have 72042 does not show to be a good model number in the lists I have downloaded? Does it have a Kohler in it or a Kawasaki? Edited July 5, 2014 by 546cowboy
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,472 #5 Posted July 5, 2014 Think I have all the CV14 models listed with this Kohler manual http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/4103-engine-kohler-cv11-cv16-sm-tp-2339-dpdf/ Garry
JOHNCONNER 0 #6 Posted July 5, 2014 Nylyon - As far as how it stops...as if it runs out of gas.... 546Cowboy - the main model number of my Wheelhorse 264-6 is 72042, made in 1994...the year I purchased it.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #7 Posted July 5, 2014 Loosen the gas cap and give it a go, see if it lasts longer than 30 minutes. If it still stops, check for spark.
skrusins 128 #8 Posted July 6, 2014 I've had a simaler problem this summer. I put a electric fuel pump with a off and on switch. When it acts like it's running out of fuel I turn on the pump and it continues run w/o any problems. Go figure.
semperfi8185 56 #9 Posted July 6, 2014 Sounds like the ignition module (magneto). You should be able to pick one up on EBay. People are parting out the Kohler command cv14s that came on the 264-6.
