bell 11 #1 Posted September 28, 2008 A good friend of mine called me up and offered me a WH for some $ that he owed me.... I went to look at it and found this.... A 308-8! I'm not sure what year it is... Yet. I picked it up on my way to work this evening. It runs like a CLOCK.... (8hp Kohler Magnum)! It has some serious belt/ pulley issues... The belts are not the right ones and the bearings in the PTO are SHOT... But, I have another PTO laying around... Not sure what I'm gonna do with it, but I'm thinking that the modern Kohler and the 8-speed transmission would be SWEET in the 633.... It also came with some pretty neat literature.... JimD 3,347 #2 Posted September 29, 2008 my only problem is that nobody that owes me money has a wheelhorse :banghead:
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted September 29, 2008 Nice deal, looks like you got one of them 37" decks? they are suppose to be nice cutting decks.
bell 11 #4 Posted September 29, 2008 The funny thing is that I had forgotten about him oweing me the money... Then, he called me up and told me about this.... Like getting a early birthday present! And to think.... I almost bought a 8hp Kohler Magnum yesterday... for $200.... Something told me to wait (the wife lol). I may just fix it and use it to mow with... I'm not sure. Probably depends on how much work it's gonna take to get it back in working order. Hopefully it is all there, as the P.O. (before my bud) took all of the belt guards and lord knows what else off of it. I'm really digging the idea of the 833 8-speed (633)..... :horseplay:
bell 11 #5 Posted September 29, 2008 Nice deal, looks like you got one of them 37" decks? they are suppose to be nice cutting decks. You know, I haven't looked at it too much yet.. I just stopped by his house, we put the jumper cables on it... It FIRED RIGHT UP (no smoke, no noise) and we loaded it up! I'm gonna play around with it tomorrow and I'll take some more pics. :banghead:
DMESS 24 #6 Posted September 29, 2008 With the Magnum it's at least an '87. The two brochures pictured are from 1986 and 1987 so I'm guessing it might actually be an '87. It would certainly make a nice little fuel efficient mowing machine with the 37" SD deck. :banghead:
Duff 206 #7 Posted September 29, 2008 Nice deal, looks like you got one of them 37" decks? they are suppose to be nice cutting decks. Man, Kelly, HOW did you figure out it was a 37"SD from the photo? You seasoned guys sure do have eagle eyes!!!!! (smiley with magnifying glass!) Duff EDIT: Oh....the manual in the second photo! Guess I need new glasses! :USA:
kpinnc 14,642 #8 Posted September 29, 2008 Nice score Jon! I have an 87 310-8 with the 37SD deck. I gotta tell ya, that deck leaves a prettier cut than any tractor I have. Kevin
bell 11 #9 Posted September 29, 2008 I'm thinking that I'll just fix it and use it!!!! This thing is sounding pretty good! Does anybody know if my 6-4112 plow/ blade will work on it? It is supposedly for short and long frame tractors...
Kelly 1,033 #10 Posted September 29, 2008 yup that plow will fit, move the rear bar to the back hole, and the deck has the off set deck wheels the only one that does

WheelHorse_of_course 99 #12 Posted September 29, 2008 The blade will fit, but you may well need to remove the angle lever. I plower for a winter like that with a blade like this on my Charger. When I got the 854 the arm works so that is now the Blading tractor.

(I assume you mean that it will hit the footrest...)

bell 11 #17 Posted October 1, 2008 Well, I bought a new drive belt at the local WH dealer (40 miles away lol) and put the belt guard/ step, etc back on... The P.O. lost all the bolts and clamps, so I had to make a trip to the hardware store. I changed all the fluids, cleaned and inspected everything and put a new seat on it....It had water in the transaxle, so I also put a new shifter boot on it. This thing mows GREAT! Good looking herd you got yourself there Let's just say.... it was a GOOD deal.... Thank you... This thing is a GRASS THROWING BEAST!!! The guy Doesn't know what model it is, but it has a 8hp Kohler with S/G...... I get to pick it up Saturday a.m. The suspense is killing me...

Duff 206 #21 Posted October 2, 2008 Thank you... This thing is a GRASS THROWING BEAST!!! But, that may be because I'm used to mowing with the anemic Commando 6 Don't know if you saw the thread a while back discussing the wind tunnel effect these 37" SD decks have, but if you mow over anything where sand or dirt can be picked up, be darned sure nothing you value with a decent paint job is downstream of the chute! It'll sand blast it for sure! 'Course, depending on what it is and properly placed, that could be to your benefit? On mine, the grass, no matter how wet, never clumps up, either - just blows out like a silage chopper in a corn field! :horseplay: Accidentally "painted" one of the fenders on my wife's car green when I was mowing one wet morning and not paying attention. She was NOT impressed! Have fun - looks like a nice tractor! Duff :banghead:
