SPINJIM 1,986 #1 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) It must be karma. Three years ago, I saw a C-195 in someone's driveway. Stopped & asked him if he'd be interested in selling. He said "no" because it was his baby, and eventhough he didn't use it anymore, he'd hold on to it. Last Friday morning, at the Wheel Horse Show, I get a phone call telling me he might sell it. Because I sold two less collectible WH's at the show, I'm seriously considering it. But because it's "his baby", he's asking $1000 for it. It has 1870 hours on the KT-19 (probably series 1). It has never been rebuilt. Some oil seeping out of the main seal under the flywheel. He can't get it started after sitting for 3 or 4 years. So I can't hear the engine, or test the trans. The hydraulics are leaking badly at fittings and some cracked hoses. Plastic fender not cracked, but needs repaint. Seat shot & not original. Metal in decent shape (stored in a shed), but could use some touch up on chassis and repaint the hood. See pictures. It has a replacement 60" deck in decent shape. No 3-point hitch. Tires cracked, but hold air. Questions: (1) What should I expect from the Eaton trans with 1870 hours on it? (2) What should the KT-19 rebuild cost (probably w. new pistons and maybe crank shaft and rebore )? Other things are easily fixable, but those two scare me. I offered him $500, and he said he'd think about it. He gave up trying to get it to run. He took the carb and tin off of the engine, and plans on just reassembling without getting it started. Now he's cleaning it, and will put it in front of his house 'for sale' on a main road in Wheel Horse country. I get the impression that $650 will buy it. Do I take a chance??? TravelinJavelin 620 #2 Posted June 28, 2014 well I guess you have to ask what your plans are with it.........and keep in mind attachments are dedicated to for this tractor I believe so makes that a little harder to find possibly more expensive but this is one of those machines that would look great with a FEL or something like that but really for the price at if you could get for $650 that's still a good deal.... it might be cheaper to look into a repower of something........... I can tell from experience I had a simplicity 7117 with a kt-17 and found out in a hurry that things could get pricey for that motor it just all depends what you plan to do with it I guess I hope it helps you some to think about. fireman 1,022 #3 Posted June 28, 2014 2 years ago or so I bought a C-195 with only like 800 hours and a 60" deck for $900 and it was in real nice shape with no rust and ran great if that info helps.
