My "D" is alive....again

As some of you guys know my D-160 had a leaky axle seal which turned out to be a leaky axle seal and a bad axle bearing. I decided to drop it off a at a Toro/Wheel Horse Dealer to get the tranny split and have both axle bearing and seals swapped out. While your in there I told the service guy swap out all the bearings and anything else that looks questionable.

Then I made the classic mistake . I told him no rush, its not my primary mower. BIG mistake. Took months to get it split just to find out that one of the bearings is no longer available. I ended up getting some #s off the side of the bearing and after searching all over for one I found an Industrial Supply House with one (just one ) in stock. I gladly paid the $7 for it and dropped it off at the dealer. One business day later the tranny was done. All new bearings inside and 2 new axle seals.

Got some time today to get into it and it the re-install went really well. Took 5 quarts of oil to fill it. I ran around for a good 20 minutes with it and it performs great, and so far no leaks.

I did notice it wasnt charging the battery and I'm not sure if it charged before since before the tranny repair I had only about 10 minutes seat time with it. I did some electrical teasting and determined the regulator/rectifier was dead. The tractor came with a big plastic tub of spare stuff and sure enuff there was one in the tub. Did the swap and she's charging now .

Now to get some wheel weights on her and get the plow all mounted up for some winter testing.

That's great, Mike, that you got it back in service again. Lucky break on finding the one bearing you needed. That would have been a bummer if you couldn't find one.
