Shynon 7,484 #1 Posted June 25, 2014 I have a Wheel Horse GT2500 anniversary special with a briggs on it. Well I rebuilt the carb and of course it leaks after it sits, torn apart three times. tractor runs on the high end and spits and sputters at anything less, dies at lower speed. Terry M-(Moderator) 2,251 #2 Posted June 25, 2014 Tom, just thinking here and I might be way off...but if it runs best at high speed and leaks fuel after shut off, could your carb float be off adjustment and there for is dumping too much fuel or too high of a fuel level in the carburetor? 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,532 #3 Posted June 25, 2014 If the carb intake leaks fuel when not running I can guess at the cause. The long fuel nozzle has a tapered seat just above the threads. These seldom seal once the nozzle has been removed. Get it clean and dry. Using a toothpick apply a small band of teflon thread sealer to the tapered seat only. That should seal it. The sealer I use is made by Permatex and intended for pipe threads. This leak should not cause your low speed running condition unless it is a big leak so look further for that. The reason you don't see the leak when running is the fuel is drawn into the engine by the intake air. Garry Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Tom I'm pretty sure it's suppost to seal.. could be your problem. can you take a pick of what your talking about? some briggs experts may chime in too. Desko 624 #8 Posted June 25, 2014 The plug should be air tight, as for the leak and only running good at high rpm's its the float not adjusted right causing it not to seat and constantly let fuel in and the low idle screw needs to be adjusted its the screw that's under the air filter.
