RMCIII 838 #1 Posted June 24, 2014 Anyone know where, or who has, Wheel Horse Red paint? Rob
rmaynard 15,965 #2 Posted June 24, 2014 This is probably the single most discussed subject on the forum.
RMCIII 838 #3 Posted June 24, 2014 Well that was easy. Thanks Bob. Rob
rmaynard 15,965 #4 Posted June 24, 2014 I have used three different colors that are all PPG automotive paints. One was Wheel Horse red, one was GM #81, and the latest was Ford New Tractor red. All three are close, but I think I like the Ford color best. As has been widely discussed, there is no one formula that is "correct" as Wheel Horse used different paint suppliers from year to year, and each had a slight variation. Find a red that you like, paint your Wheel Horse with it, and it becomes your Wheel Horse Red. [emoji2] Sent from my Moto G using Tapatalk
RMCIII 838 #5 Posted June 25, 2014 OK, just for giggles, Sohar has now (2) colors of Red for Toro. New Toro Red and, 361-10 Apple Red.... 361-1 Rob
CasualObserver 3,410 #6 Posted June 25, 2014 New Toro Red is what they named Wheel Horse red when they bought the company. They liked the Wheel Horse red better than their own which I think was the Apple Red (formerly called Toro Red). Regardless, neither of which is the same formula as old Wheel Horse red... as stated... it varied over the years anyway. Just pick one you like and go with it.
AMC RULES 37,160 #7 Posted June 25, 2014 I usually gravitate to the 's wearing reds that appear more orange than blue.
Snowmobileaddict 403 #8 Posted June 25, 2014 Rustleum Sunrise Red should be pretty close to a dead on match for your 5xi, and Cheap too.
RMCIII 838 #9 Posted June 26, 2014 Was actually looking for the "Red" for the snowblower. Would that still fall under the Rustoleum Sunrise Red?
Dana Bennett 2 #10 Posted June 28, 2014 my tractor is apart at the moment for other repairs, my brother wanted to respray the fiberglass fenders/seat area because as it is outside all the time the sun had bleached it out kinda thru the original paint. He picked up some rust-oleum "Regal Red" and to me when applied it looked pretty close to the same color on the underside of the plastic. I may be wrong but maybe it would be worth a try??
c-series don 9,508 #11 Posted June 28, 2014 I personally talked to Cecil Pond about this and he said there is/was no official Wheel Horse red. Back then they bought paint from different manufacturers over the years and did not have the exact match technology they have now. I painted my C-161 8speed with sunrise red and Mr. Pond said that's as close as you'll get ! Some guys like regal red for the older tractors. So I say pick your favorite color red and that is YOUR Wheel Horse red !!!!!
rmaynard 15,965 #12 Posted June 28, 2014 I usually gravitate to the 's wearing reds that appear more orange than blue. I have used the PPG Wheel Horse Red and found it to be on the blue side of the spectrum. Then I was introduced to Ford New Tractor Red. That is what I painted the 857 with. It tends to have a very slight orange tint, but not so much that in the direct sunlight it looks orange. I agree with you Craig. I favor a red with the slight orange tint as well.
RMCIII 838 #13 Posted June 28, 2014 All great feedback, but what I don't want to happen is to find out that the "red" I get does not match the rest of the pain on the snowblower. That would look terrible. Rob
