Ken B 3,189 #1 Posted June 22, 2014 I really didn't want to sell my recently restored 603 at the show but once I saw this 161 8- speed I knew I had to have it. I bought it from Dale at Dale's mower service who was a vendor at the show. (he's a real nice guy) He rebuilt the engine at some point and let me tell you, it has some snot! I've owned a few C-160's and a C-161 but they pale in comparison to this one when it comes to power. When I got home I made some very minor adjustments and threw a 42 inch side discharge deck on it that I had "in stock" I thought my 417- 8 had some nut but it now seems tired in comparison! I would have liked to have kept my 603 but space is limited, besides I can put this C-161 to some good use.

userj8670 68 #15 Posted June 23, 2014 That's a mighty fine looking machine! Curious but what is the difference between the 160 and the 161? You said she is potent...motor has been hopped up?

The 161 models were offered in 1978-1979 only, the regular C-160 was offered from 1974-1977. The hoodstand and fuel tank setup is different between the 160 and the 161. Mike.......... The engine in mine is pretty fresh with a 30 thou over bore...

JimmyZ 176 #20 Posted June 23, 2014 If I had room I would've drug that one home too. I was tempted to see if you would haul it home for me. Since the 417 seems "down" on power it's probably up for grabs. I'm first in line? I'm sure we can come up with some Mega Blockbuster Brother trade/swap. Nice pickup Bro. I'm gonna run that 417 right into the ground. Once the KT does give up the ghost (2000 hrs. and counting) I've got BIG plans for that one...
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,532 #22 Posted June 24, 2014 A single thumper 16hp would be good in the 417 but then again a 24hp Honda would be even better...

fireman 1,022 #25 Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) I was there when he bought that tractor. It's in amazing condition. Ken drove that back to our campsite and wasted no time in getting out the buffer and giving her a shine. Looks great! Ken we never got a chance to take that picture of them side by side. Have to do that at Kent or Zagray. Edited June 25, 2014 by fireman
