digitalgraham 1 #1 Posted June 21, 2014 Hi, I've just joined the forum as I've an issue with the engine in my C105. Hopefully you guys can help point me in the right direction I wish I'd found this forum a few years ago when I got the WH, as I was thinking about a complete restoration or maybe just a thorough overhaul. The tractor isn't too bad, there's no real rust or damage but it needs paint stripping off and re-applying and a fresh set of decals. I'll post some pics up over the next few days. Anyway, how are we in the UK for engine parts and companies to rebuild them?
neil 2,410 #2 Posted June 21, 2014 Welcome to Redsquare There are a few guys here that may be able to help with parts, I'm sure they will introduce them selves soon.

meadowfield 2,754 #5 Posted June 21, 2014 Welcome Graham, I'd say you need to pull the head and the oil pan to have a look. You can then assess for bottom end wear and see if it's the balance gears or the bearings. My C-101 knocks and rattles, but I'm half sure it's more the head coked up as it smokes when cold but then clears up. I'd say have a look at your own rebuild unless it needs a rebore, then perhaps look for a donor engine if you are trying to keep the price down. Jparkes43 329 #6 Posted June 22, 2014 Welcome graham, good luck with the decision to overhaul or full restore and I'm also sure that these friendly chaps will have the right information you need. Jamesm
digitalgraham 1 #7 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) 'Ow do! Welcome. Where about in Cumbria are you? North of Carlisle, near Longtown. I see we have similar interests I've a '63 109 Safari Series 2a LR & an ex-MOD '85 Defender. Thanks for the welcomes everyone, looks like I'm going to check the engine initially and then decide whether to restore or just a good overhaul. Scary, I'm normally marshalling on the rallies in Kielder either on start or finish lines
Anglo Traction 761 #10 Posted June 23, 2014 A 'Belated Welcome ' . Plenty of experts worldwide here and don't shy away from having a go at the Engine yourself, they are so straight forward. Depends if your comfortable doing it?. I've done both of the options your considering, or may have to resort to, but on 12hp versions, which includes- strip and inspect with a top end refurb with new valves and a full re-bored, crank re-ground rebuild (junked the Balance Gears on the latter). Service Manual is clear and concise if you do it yourself and have the tools. I 'Ordered In' my main Rebuild Kit (aftermarket) from the U.S. as Kohler prices here are OTT. However, I bought the smaller genuine parts in UK. Loads of places for genuine parts online or local Garden Machinery workshops/Dealers over here.
Stormin 9,984 #11 Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Pass through Longtown quite a bit, Graham, taking the scenic route to and from our caravan. Heathergill Vintage club have their meetings in the hall. As for Land Rovers, sad to say my 90 is up for sale. Treated my self to a TD5 Disco in my old age. Do some rally marshalling as well. BTW. For crank regrinds etc Try Tom Rumney at Silloth. He bought True Grinds machines when they packed up. Edited June 23, 2014 by Stormin
