Right dipstick?

Recommended Posts

Kennedy

I have a 1996 Kohler m14. I changed the oil for the first time since I bought it (it has just sat since then). I let the oil drain for about 3 1/2 hours owners manual says it takes two quarts poured in two quarts and let it sit over night. I checked it just a few minutes ago and this is how the dipstick read:

Should I add more oil or do I have the wrong dipstick Im not sure how to proceed.

Thanks

Mark

Mark, what I do is go by the mfg. capacity chart. Add the recommended amount and adjust dipstick or make new marks on it. So far, so good. You did right by draining crankcase completely.

This should take 2-1/2 quarts with the low oil switch introduced in 1986. After the switch was first used they did take 2 quarts and they revised that and changed the dipstick. I just looked in the chart

There is a service bulletin on this and the dipstick change but can't find it at the moment.

Found the service bulletin. I searched for dipstick but should have used dip stick.
