ricksrj58 273 #1 Posted June 18, 2014 i have a 1965 or 66 lawn ranger with rear discharge deck and it seems like only one blade is cutting, both blades spin freely and are sharp and the belt is tight and i cannot hold one blade and spin the other blade, but when i mowed it was leaving a tall row of grass. any ideas? Lane Ranger 11,410 #2 Posted June 18, 2014 Originally the two blades were bade as a right and left set. The blades should be set at 90 degree difference when installing. The meshing of the gears on the top of the mower deck has to be tight. Lots of grease in those little boxes and if you take a look with the cover off you may find lots of wear on the teeth of the gears. Rick you may find the cul;prit by removing the gear boxes. I have rebuilt the spindles with new Torrington B1212 needle bearings on mine. When you turn the blade underneath (either one) does the belt turn on top freely with the turning of the blade? Terry M-(Moderator) 2,237 #3 Posted June 18, 2014 Just a thought, if you were able to somehow mount two identical blades( i.e., two lefts or two rights) one blade would cut while maybe the other would just be rotating backwards and "sweep" over the grass....or like Lane indicated, maybe the problem is some mechanical issue.
