MalMac 1,332 #1 Posted June 11, 2014 Can anyone tell me if this is a OEM back rest. It came off a 854, the guy I got the tractor from said he had it put on new at the dealer. I have never seen a oval back pad before.
Brrly1 1,146 #2 Posted June 11, 2014 Looks like one to me, is the wood plywood? It looks to have a curve to it? If so I would say yes

Racinbob 11,925 #4 Posted June 11, 2014 I had one on my 854 up north but it was more rectangular with little or no curve. The mounting bracket was the same. I have no clue if what I had was original or correct for the year. Definitely a nice thing to have.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,498 #5 Posted June 11, 2014 I wish I could see the picture. I have been looking for one for months now for my 854 that I am re doing. I never knew they were curved. Glenn
MalMac 1,332 #6 Posted June 11, 2014 That's just it I have never seen one that is oval and curved shape. I am pretty sure the support itself is OEM but not sure about the oval pad itself.
AMC RULES 37,196 #7 Posted June 11, 2014 I've heard of them being mentioned before... first one I've ever seen one though.

Brrly1 1,146 #9 Posted June 14, 2014 Well time is a rarity any more it's a busy place around here. What I found is that my back rests are all rectangle shape. I have three of them with one going to get recoverd. The back rest itself is a 3/4" piece of plywood and it is curved. Don't ask me how because I have No idea how they got the wood to curve like that. I would say the steel part is original but as far as the oval pad I don't know. I don't think it would be original for a Wheel Horse tractor maybe a Simple city or something like that???
Racinbob 11,925 #10 Posted June 14, 2014 Like this one John? It not a very good picture but it was all I found on a quick Yahoo search. This is what I had on my 854 but I didn't realize it was wood.
squonk 43,793 #11 Posted June 14, 2014 I had the exact same backrest as in that 854 pic. Came off of an 854 as well. Since recovered.
Brrly1 1,146 #12 Posted June 14, 2014 Yes sir, it looks exactly like that. Believe it or not there's a piece of plywood used for the back rest itself.
shorts 182 #13 Posted June 19, 2014 It looks like they are molded plywood, the plywood is put into a mold and pressed into shape and held their until the glue dries then they are trimmed to size and upholstered. Burly, if you get a chance take a couple of pictures of a bare backrest with a tape measure stretched out next to it, it might be something that could be reproduced for a reasonable cost.
