520 drive belt tension

Recommended Posts

cheesegrader

I'm replacing an old, cracked drive belt.

It seems to have too much play, and slaps against the guard.

The tensioning spring was full of lawn debris, but even with the new OEM belt and a cleaned assembly, it doesn't seem tight.

Do these springs go bad?  I can't find it on the Toro assembly drawings, and can't find a part number.

Any ideas?

That part is listed in the "Clutch, Brake and Speed Control Linkage" page. Here is a link to it:

Part # 37 (Toro Part # 107938) Spring-Extension.

I have a similar problem of the belt slapping and am going to replace this spring.

Ah hah!

There it is.

Seems like the drive belt tensioner would go in the drive belt schematic, but what do I know?

P.S.  The grader blade got a good workout last week, and now water drains AWAY from my pole barn instead of INTO it!

Now I remember you!! Glad the blade is useful for you. Once we got all our yard work done and got the drive paved, it just sat up in our hangar.

I just ordered that spring from RCPW. I also ordered the tension spring in the mower deck. After 22 years, I suspect these springs loose some resilience. Seem's there are many items in the Toro drawings that are in other locations you might not expect to see them.

Go Packers!!
