plempicki 0 #1 Posted June 9, 2014 I have a 1991 212-5 (non Hydro) with a 38" mower deck model number 0538SL01. I've looked for replacement spindles for the deck but could not find any. I went to a local place and purchased new bearings and belt. I am to find out if these bearings are pressed in and if anyone can give me an idea to get them out. WH nut 553 #2 Posted June 9, 2014 Hammer and punch. You can drive in the new ones with a hammer but be careful. I like to use an arbor press.
slammer302 2,156 #3 Posted June 9, 2014 Put the new bearings in the freezer and the housing in a oven and they should tap right in the cold will shrink the metal and the oven will expand the metal it makes a difference
plempicki 0 #4 Posted June 21, 2014 Many thanks to WH Nut and slammer302 for the advice. I found out that the bearings are not the problem. One of the spindle shafts was the wrong one and the upper bearing wasn't even touching the shaft. After doing a lot of looking Ive located one (Because they are no longer available) in New South Wales Australia. My question now is does anyone know where I can get the torque values for the nuts on the spindle shafts.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,472 #5 Posted June 21, 2014 Blade nut torque is 50-60 ft. lbs.(68-81 Nm) Will get the operator manual posted shortly. Garry
