sorekiwi 761 #1 Posted June 7, 2014 The local paper had an Auction Listing for a property about 10 miles from me, with a bunch of tractors and attachments for sale. The auction was happening about a mile from a steel supplier I was visiting this afternoon, and I noticed there was a 1056 and an 856 listed. So I call in and take a look, the 1056 is a little ratty, but turns over freely, has a really good seat, a solid 42" deck but missing the starter generator guard. All in all, pretty much meets all the criteria of the ones I drag home. The 856 is a reasonably tidy little tractor. Complete, with a deck, a new battery and obviously has cut some grass recently. I figure that the 856 will sell pretty easily, the 1056 might go pretty cheaply. So I leave, intending to come back when the auction starts. But its a nice day, I have a bunch of stuff to do at home, I am finally down to 10 tractors in the shed, and why the hell do I need another one? So I go home, drink some cold beer, and feel really good about walking away from two tractors I wouldnt have walked away from before. bowtieguy 334 #5 Posted June 7, 2014 Naw, you are not cured yet!!!....I was in same condition a few months ago...said it was time to reverse the trend...BUT a 520H w/60" deck appeared on a local farm auction...I went and looked at it....went home and said "nope, I don't need any more WH's"...it was about 20 above on the day of the sale so I used that for an excuse not to go.....a good friend was going to the sale so I told him if the bid on the WH did not reach a certain number, throw in a bid for me..... Well....at least I walked away from it the first time I looked at it....so I guess I'm half-cured!!!... BTW the 520 does look pretty sharp in my shed after I put Terry's new set of decals on it!! Was just wondering if you might be interested in my 520-8, a 1990 model, runs great but now that you have too many Stallions, guess not. leeave96 490 #24 Posted June 12, 2014 I've done a pretty good job of resisting dragging home any tractors this year. I can't explain it, but this has been the year of breakdowns. There have been times, inspite of about 10 total old iron tractors, were it not for the push mowers (and they have had their set of problems) and the MTD Cub Cadet lawn tractor, I'd be mowing hay! I even borrowed my Dad's old BCS tiller to finish-off getting my garden ready because my fine Troybilt Horse tiller is getting a major carb overhaul. Between the lack of space and the constant knuckle busting repair drill - I haven't had the overwhelming desire to bring home a fixer-upper. The nicer tractors that have been for sale have wetted my appetite have been, IMHO, way overpriced, so I passed. Also attempted to sell and or trade off some of my other color tractors, but get motivated to grab the wrenches for more knuckle busting when the crazy low ball offers came-in. The good news is - if and when I get past this massive repair phase, these tractors I'm fixing are being done right. And with an eye on them being relatively trouble free for about 10 or more years and only routine maintenance, oil change or belt will be required. So one could say my lack of space and knuckle busting tough love is keeping my tractor addiction at bay.... Bill Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
