prondzy 3,889 #1 Posted June 6, 2014 Just play picked up this project last night. Everything seem to be there. The previous owner lost interest he also threw in a 10hp Kohler for a john Deere and a nos 10hp Kohler block never been assembled still has the assembly lube on the cam! jdleach 525 #6 Posted June 6, 2014 Great score there. I don't recall the last time I have seen an older Horse around here. They pop up on Craig's list, but I never see them in the paper, or hear about one for sale.
prondzy 3,889 #7 Posted June 7, 2014 Does anyone have an idea how common is the 704? Except for this one I don't recall seeing any in my neck of the woods.
Hammerhead 817 #8 Posted June 8, 2014 Good score on the 704. Yours looks pretty good to me.They don't seem to be very common at all. I have one and that is about the only one I have ever seen. Mine has the original 7 hp Kohler with recoil starter. It was the very first WH I ever bought way back in about 1985. I was driving out in the country and saw it sitting in a guys flower bed! I stopped and asked about buying it. The guy said he would sell it. He said his 3 year old son had put dirt clods down the spark plug hole while he had the plug out so he figured it was junk! I asked how much he wanted for it and he said he would have to have $20.00 out of it since it had brand new rear tires on it! So I paid him quickly and we loaded it up! I got it home and took the head off it to inspect the damage. Seems there was only a few peices of sand like dirt in the motor. He said he yelled at the kid as he was dropping the dirt into it so he must have stopped before he put any dirt in it! I cleaned out the crud and reinstalled the head. It fired right up on the very first pull! Several years later I had it sitting at my local tractor show and noticed the same guy checking out his old 704! He said, hey did this used to be mine? I said yes and we both had a good laugh reliving the story together! LOL!
