Bert 760 #1 Posted June 1, 2014 Wanted to share this simple mod that works great on my 1990 520h, i drilled a hole below the original and mounted the linkage from the column motion control lever. The linkage to the pump stayed in the stock location. This gives more foward and reverse travel to the plate on the pump which was lacking bad on my tractor, I adjusted everything just like it was stock and it works flawlessly, I compared the movement to my older tractor with the lever between operators knees and they are the same now so I'm not worried that it may excessive. If anyone else has a lack of travel in the linkage on this style tractor i recomend they try this, can't beat free and it may work for you too
papasan1 4 #2 Posted June 2, 2014 Can you offer anymore detail? Like where the lever is now. Maybe a after pic of the completed project. Thanks
papaglide 542 #3 Posted June 2, 2014 I believe that the picture shows the completed project. I think that the lever stays put, this is just so that there is more travel. Bert, was it possible to drill without taking the assembly out, did you do it in place?
Bert 760 #4 Posted June 2, 2014 Papaglide you are correct, this is a pic of the completed project. Papasan1 before the mod both rods were mounted on the same bolt which was the upper one in the pic, maybe somebody has a pic of it stock? Everything except the mid attachment position of the of the front rod stayed put, it is mounted slightly below stock. It was a bit of a guess as to where to drill so i went with the least amount possible without the bolts interfering with each other. I did have to remove the assembly so it could be drilled, the hole thing took about an hour and a half. This 520 has low hours and little rust so it came apart and went back together easy, I could see this being a pain on one that has been out in the weather for years. This all makes me wonder why a low hour stock tractor wasn't working as it should have? Is the column lever a bad design or not engineered as far as it should have been? Or could my tractor of been one that slipped past QC?
Navig8r 132 #5 Posted June 2, 2014 So this effectively causes more action on the pump for less travel from the column lever? Yes? Trying to understand, but having trouble visualizing the result.
Forest Road 594 #6 Posted June 3, 2014 Very nice! I'll have to check mine. Not sure if ill get anymore travel with mine. Have you considered Matt's Hydro foot pedal conversion? I wouldn't want a hydro classic without it!!!
Bert 760 #7 Posted June 4, 2014 Navig8r, yes and yes. Forest Road I have considered Matts pedal and i want one on at least one of my horses, maybe more?
Red-Bovine 334 #8 Posted June 4, 2014 I put one of Matt's pedals on my 520H last year after converting to a Honda motor. It has become so natural to to use I don't know how I did without it for 20 years. I always thought these hydros should have had the foot control right from the get go. Great investment you will love every time you use the tractor. Red
