stratostar250 934 #1 Posted May 29, 2014 (edited) Hey everyone! I just have a few questions for some of you guys who know their stuff about oils and fluids. I've been looking through the manuals of the D250 so I can change some fluids, and be have extra if need be and such, and I just have a few questions, because I would prefer to be correct than to just guess the things I am not too positive about. Engine Oil: So in the repair/owners manual for the tractor, under my conditions, SAE HD 10w-30 is recommended. I've done some looking and have noticed that most, if not all HD oils are considered to be an oil for Diesel vehicles. Are these oils okay for the 4cyl Renault Gasoilne motor? Have oils come far enough to where I could probably used a normal 10w30 with a good API rating? I would rather use the HD rated oil, if it is alright. Hydraulic System and Governor Oil: In the repair/owners manual, it is recommended that I use HD SAE 10, with an API rating of at least SC. All I have been able to find (although I have not looked all that much, yet) is a Non-detergent SAE 10, with an API of either SA, or SB. Nothing better so far. Is there somewhere I should look for this kind of oil? Is there a cross reference hydraulic oil for this, under another name (at least for the hydraulic reservoir)? The manual for the loader recommends 10w30 or 10w40 HD motor oil, which I can find, no problem, and the transmission and steering box recommend an SAE 90/hypoid oil, which I have seem to have found. I am not as worried about these two, but the top two oils are my main concern. If anyone can throw their two sense at me, that would be great. I really appreciate it guys! Thank you for any help you can contribute! Edited May 29, 2014 by stratostar250
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,472 #2 Posted May 29, 2014 Have you seen the Wheel Horse lube chart? The SA, SB, and SC classifications have now reached something like SL and theoretically a new one replaces the older one. You will find oil with classification like SC/CD. The S/x is for spark ignition (gasoline engines) and the /Cx is for compression ignition (diesel engines) so that oil is good for both if that is what the engine manufacturer specifies. That is what I use in my older Kohler engines because it is designed for flat tappet cams. Some of the latest SJ or SL oils are not. /C-Series oils have also gone up to CF or somewhere there. Garry Thanks! No, I had not seen this. It nicely puts everything together! But thanks for your info. This is good stuff to know, I just don't want to be using the wrong type of oil for things. I do know that the ratings have reached farther (I think the last oil I bought was rated SN) I should probably do some more readings on what these ratings actually mean, therefore I can figure out and understand this more, but regardless, thank you for your input!
