boovuc 1,090 #1 Posted May 25, 2014 Well since there has been a lot of topics lately on the KT series Kohlers, I'll just add this tidbit. Going to change my C175 over to synthetic Mobile One today. I have always used PennsOil in it since I acquired it back in the early 90's. It's use is mostly blowing snow anymore and it isn't run much and always on level ground now. I know it will burn some of that 10w-30 but for all intended purposes, I think it will do it better with a synthetic going forward. (Besides........the electrical problems on my 416 need to be walked away from or just ignored for awhile so I'll concentrate a little on the KT since it had a major workout this past winter). AMC RULES 37,211 #2 Posted May 25, 2014 Guesstimate how many hours on your Series 1 Boo.
smoreau 658 #3 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) I don't see any problems with going with Modile One. I would change the oil twice to get all the standard oil out of the crank case. There is about 1/8 of a quart that will not come out when you drain your oil. Just run the engine tell its up to temp and drain it again. If it is a series I engine, it should make it last a lot longer. Edited May 25, 2014 by smoreau
Ken B 3,189 #4 Posted May 25, 2014 Good luck with the Mobil 1. Personally I'd stick with the Pennzoil, I've been using it for many yrs. myself with no issues. I tried out Mobil 1 on a fleet of seven S-10's security trucks I used to maintain. These trucks ran almost 24/7 at slow speeds mostly. The oil levels were checked at least once every few days and more often than not the oil level would be down a few quarts. ( no leaks) Within a few months this was enough to convince me to switch back to Pennzoil and the dissappearing oil issues were resolved.
boovuc 1,090 #5 Posted May 25, 2014 I'll estimate around 1300 to 1400 hours on it. Timer died at 567 hours in 1995.
Fordiesel69 271 #6 Posted May 27, 2014 Just be more careful using a multigrade as the engine will burn it fast. This is not a problem if you keep it full. If it is a series 1 which is known to throw rods, keep the oil full and do not mow or operate on any angle other than flat ground. Generators or stationary applications do not experience this type of failure.

I had this happen also....no more....maybe a synthetic blend would be better..
Fordiesel69 271 #8 Posted May 27, 2014 Certain blends of synthetic will do this, but kept up to full should not cause any issues. For oil info, check out www.bobistheoilguy.com
