boovuc 1,090 #3 Posted May 25, 2014 Hi David, The Kohler Command 12 horse engines started in 1998 and ran through 2001. Any 312 before that were the cast iron Kohlers. (Magnums and K series). That narrows it down some! Now what did you pick up!

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,474 #7 Posted May 27, 2014 Kohler made the engine in 1998 so that leaves us with a possibility of 2 models 1998 model 73428 Serial 8900001-8900499 1998 model 73428 Serial 8900500-8999999 1999 model 73429 Serial 9900001-9999999 1999 models would have been released in October 1998 so there is a good chance this is a 1999 model with that high of a Kohler serial. You might compare the operator manuals and illustrated parts lists for differences that may nail down the model year. Do you know how to find the manuals?
