GT 14 hydro advice needed

Recommended Posts

bazjo33

I recently inherited a '69 GT 14 from my father in law. The tractor is in fairly good condition for it's age, the engine runs very strong & everything seems to work well except for the hydraulics. My father in law believes the pump is shot. Has anyone had experience with this sort of repair? If so, do you think it's worth trying to fix it? Any advice would be much appreciated!

:USA: Hello

So it will drive fwd and rvs but no lift?

If that is the case I would check the valve and also you might remove and clean the relief valves.

You can get hydro pump service manual off the Toro web site.

Best of luck

Hello and :banghead: This is the best group you will find out there on the internet and I also have to say the tractor is definitely worth keeping. Rebuilding the pump should not be to difficult. Of course it also helps if you have some sort of mechanical backround or you don't mind getting greasy. I myself have not rebuilt one yet but we do have some people within this group that have rebuilt pumps ,transmissions and basically anything on a Wheel Horse. I happen to have a few GT's and I basically swear by them Great tractors. I am sure that someone here in this group will be more than hapy to get you hooked up with just anything you should need. Bearings ,seals, hoses, ect. One of the guys that goes by the name of Refracman is pretty knowledgeable about these pumps and transmissions. If you get a chance and have a way of posting pictures that would be a great start. Basically all you have to do here within this group is just ask and nine.nine times out of ten someone will have the correct answer Take care and welcome to Red Square. You might also post your location that would be a big help. Good Luck Burly

Thanks for the replies! The tractor won't go up hills. My father in law is a retired heavy equipment mechanic, so I'm relying on his diagnosis of the problem. He checked the valves and found they're OK. I guess if there are service manuals and parts available, I'll rebuild the pump. Otherwise I'll try to find a replacement pump somewhere. I'm new to WH but the GT 14 is my second horse, I also have an '89 310-8 I got a few months ago (I love it). I really appreciate the wealth of knowledge that is out there on these great old machines, thanks again. :banghead:

Your 1969 GT-14 is model # 1-7441. If you go to the Toro site you can download an operator's manual, a Sunstrand transmission manual, and a Toro hydraulics manual. They should help you some. Put 1-7441 for model number and riding mower for product type. Here's the link:

https://lookup3.toro.com/request/request.cfm

Good luck.

Thanks WH_of_course, the tow valve is closed. Man I wish the repair was that simple! Thanks for the link, Buzz, I just downloaded the transmission and hydraulics manuals from the Toro website. I'll post photos as soon as I can figure out how.
