bell 11 #1 Posted September 22, 2008 I went to a local "swap meet" today and found some goods.... a K91 that has decent compression... And a square pan seat in VERY good condition...
bell 11 #2 Posted September 22, 2008 Then I went to see a guy in Spencer, IN about some parts... I needed a belt cover for my 603 and one for my 1045.... The one for the 603 was off of a 633... When I saw the tractor that it came off of, I decided that I had to have it... It has a Craftsman brand engine on it... I think I will be putting a H60 on it, or... maybe a 8hp Kohler.... Or, I might just try to get the craftsman engine running... I need to do some research on them though... I'm not familiar AT ALL with that engine... Anybody know anything about them? I also HAD to have a set of the "right" tires for it... And, a belt S/G belt cover for the 1045!!!

Craftsman didn't make engines, they put their numbers and decals on the engines that were made for their tractors. It's probably a Tecumseh H-60. Post the number and we can probably tell what it is. Should start with 143.xxxxxx I believe.
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted September 22, 2008 Yup that's a Tucky motor, To me it looks to big for a H60, but I've been wrong before, it looks like what they call a med. frame engine, exh. looks to come out the side not the front, and the hood lacks some to reach the frame in front, so the motor is to tall, the pan is huge, but the tractor looks to be in good shape. The belt guard for your 1045 is not the right one, but will fit with some mods to the mounting tabs, I can post some detailed pic's of the tabs if you need? So your still looking for a drive belt guard or leave the model decal off and swap it from tractor to tractor :omg:
bell 11 #6 Posted September 22, 2008 Yeah, I believe it is a 12 HP.... There is 2" between the spark plug boot and the bottom of the hood... I can bring the hood back down to where it is supposed to be and still have at least an inch!!!! The engine's gonna stay right where it is! Pics would be great of the tabs... I have lots of sheetmetal laying around and a welder... so I can fab up some tabs... Yes, I'm still looking for a belt guard... 2 actually... The 603 and the 1045 are both missing.... I have one that doesn't have the indention for the model number... I can use it for one of them, in a pinch....
joebob 45 #7 Posted September 22, 2008 thats no H 60 its more like a HH100 or HH120 possibly out of sears tractor I have a 120 and it looks just like it, just in a different color for the early sears
bell 11 #8 Posted September 22, 2008 As far as the hood being too high, there is a strange (Hardware store) hinge welded to the bottom of the hood... it is not strong enough to support the hood (side to side)... I will re-work it and make it right. Can someone post a pic of the correct hood mounting for the front of the hood? I think this thing is going to be a BEAST! :banghead:
KyBlue 655 #9 Posted September 22, 2008 Good Haul!!
kpinnc 14,642 #10 Posted September 22, 2008 Jon, That hood shouldn't have any type of hinge on it. There is a hole in the front of the frame that you put a knurled screw through just like the sides of the top of the hood. Someone just tried to make it raise up like a newer model. The hood is supposed to just have a tab that fits down into the frame for the screw to go though... Nice haul though! Kevin

The original owner of my 702 put a hinge on the bottom front of the hood so that it could be pivoted forward like the later models. It is so handy that I may just leave it if I ever get around to restoring the tractor.

bell 11 #14 Posted September 22, 2008 The mount for the hood is still there.... They just welded a hinge to it. Does anybody make the knurled screws? or, does anybody have any lying around? :banghead:

sorekiwi 761 #17 Posted September 23, 2008 Here's a link to a completed sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Wheel-Horse-Hood-Bolts...id=p3286.c0.m14 I assume you could contact the seller to see when he'll have more. Note that these are aluminum, the originals were steel. I've been meaning to make a couple of sets. Maybe I'll have to get round to it sooner rather than later...
