9 wires only 8 pins

I bought a 1997 520H with no motor and a 520H unknown year. I put the motor on the 97 and found that they had cut the 9 pin connector off the tractor, the good news is that they taped each wire numbering them 1-9. Now here lies the problem, there are only 8 wires coming from the motor and I cannot find one numbered 4 from the motor. I purchased the new connector end but I still have more wires from the tractor than from the motor. The dash lights all come on but no power to the solenoid or coil. The wiring diagram shows #4 as a tach wire which should not cause problems. I have cleaned all the terminals and checked fuses.
