61' 701 W/H purchase!

Recommended Posts

Arlynskyn

I just purchased a near perfect 701! I'm very excited to start making it look new. It does need a throttle cable/knob, the original doesnt let it come down to idle. The hood is not secure, the taps and screws on the side of the tank are missing. I dont know if the bolts to the frame or should hinge, not a big issue cause i dont need it to be to spec. I will paint it, and tossing around a narrow front, whats your thoughts?

That is not a 701, going by what I can see it might be a 854, I would need more info, or better pics, but I'm 100% sure it's not a 701 that front axle was not used till 63, if the steering wheel is orig. they started that style in 64, I can see the studs used to hold the batt. strap on, that means its a bolt in batt tray, and that was not started till 64, so no it's not a 701, probably a 854, but could be the much harder to find 754 what is the spec. no. on the engine tag??

I can't see the front of the hood so it may have a 701 hood on it, I don't see the rolled lip on the bottom edge of the hood so it is a 61 or 62 hood, no grill bars makes it a 61

:WRS:  Looks like a nice tractor, but does not appear to be a 701. A 701 has a different lift lever catch, clutch pedal, double belt starter generator, steering wheel and those are just a few things I see from here. It looks like it may be a 64 854? But not sure. It does however have the 701 hood which is a hard to find hood. Whatever it is, its a nice tractor and good luck with it.

edit....kelly beat me to it. lol

engine spec no is a 7 hp Kohler, used in the 753 and I believe the 754 there is little info on the 754 rumor has it that there was about 200 or so 754's built, better pics will help determine what model you have.

As for the axle seals most any good Toro dealer can order you a set, they are standard 1" axle seals used in many WH tractors, till the 70's I don't know the part no. right off

It looks like your tractor has a mix of parts from different tractors.  However, if parts other than the hood and the seat appear to be all original (especially the engine), there is a good chance that you may have the very rare 754 model. This tractor definitely merits closer investigation as to its true origins.  What is the serial number on the tank stand near the gear shift?

The only sticker by the gear shifter is the gear order, theres no other numbers under there. Can find them on the tractor anywhere else? Also what are the differences between the 753 and 754? Thanks everybody... I'm glad to find out what it is!
