chazm 413 #1 Posted May 13, 2014 Well after 6 years the old Raider 10 is sick... After mowing I went to park the Ol gurl & seen the amp gauge pegged at -30 So I removed the ground cable from the batt & noticed a small arch & the amp gauge jump back to 0. When I put a test light between the neg cable end & the neg post ,It lights up telling me "HOUSTON...WE HAVE A PROBLEM Going out to do some more dag on the issue, Now here's my question are techy voltage reg pacifistic to techies or are they universal? PartsTree doesn't give Part # for it or the stator, I know ifs the stator I'll be chit out of luck, but want to start with the reg.
Save Old Iron 1,571 #2 Posted May 14, 2014 Chas, as long as neither stator wire is grounded to the engine, the regulators should be the same for Kohler or Tecky engines. Start as you normally would by measuring the AC voltage from the stator. As with a Kohler, the AC output should be 30 volts or above at full throttle. If the stator is the issue, and you have a solid state ignition, then yes, finding a replacement is going to be fun, They are available but they are pricey. You may luck out and just have a few corroded connections in the charge system. The -30 amps is surprising. I would not have expected to see such as large discharge rate from battery. I'll be on and off the forum over the next few days - quite a bit of traveling lately.
Save Old Iron 1,571 #3 Posted May 14, 2014 also - Deere used the Techy engines in that time frame. You may be able to snag a regulator from an old model Deere tractor.

Save Old Iron 1,571 #6 Posted May 21, 2014 a change in the connector housing and you are all set - thanks for the update - there is no electrical reason those regs should not work as a substitute.
