64s 83 #1 Posted May 10, 2014 I don't know why its bothering me now, but the deck on my 856 keeps falling down. Its been this way for 5-6+ years and it really isn't hurting anything, but is it something in the lift arm or is the height adjustment thats worn? Thanks. daveoman1966 3,839 #2 Posted May 11, 2014 Hmmmm... after nearly 50 years, probably a bit of both. Using an oil squirt can, put some oil into the lift handle / arm...at least until it drips out, working it back and forth as well. The round black grip will slide up and off of the handle. Just find an open-end wrench to just fit over the steel tube and tap it up against the grip...it'll slide right off. That'll probably help and its like that some internal parts are worn by now. Racinbob 11,925 #3 Posted May 11, 2014 What daveoman said will likely fix it. Check where the rod catches in the quadrant. Is it snugly in place? If not the oil might take care of it or you may have a worn/broken spring. A visual should tell you if the quadrant is worn and causing the problem.
groundhog47 347 #4 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) Although there and not broken and without another to compare, springs sometimes seem good but are compressed (mushy) to much. If you seem to have too much "lack of compression" in either the lift "disengage" spring or the mower deck height adjust spring, try a new spring or the ole add a washer trick (behind spring) Edited May 11, 2014 by groundhog47

daveoman1966 3,839 #6 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) Along that same line of thought.... If you say quickly three times 'Wheelhorse Wheelhorse Wheelhorse", it can easily sound like phonetically "real whores, real whores, real whores", Maybe THIS is why some wives are opposed to too many 'Wheelhorses ". They think you are talking the 'other' indulgence. Pity the entheusiast with a lisp, or one with brown-bottle flu... WheelHorse_of_course 99 #7 Posted May 13, 2014 Dave- no comment. In addition to all of the above, there is the possibility that the lift rod needs adjustment. If it is set too short the deck hits before the arm has come back far enough to lock. cheers Rolf
