Brian1045 28 #1 Posted September 20, 2008 I only have one of the original Aluminum spindle dust covers. I'd like to either switch to the plastic red or white ones. Can I go to a Toro dealer and order these? I found a set on ebay, but they are going for high $$. I seem to have a harder time finding the little things I need...and an easier time finding the bigger parts. :banghead:
Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted September 20, 2008 I've never seen alum. dust covers? but I thought your 1045 should have the off white plastic covers, and they can still be had from Toro for about $2-3 each.
BairleaFarm 340 #3 Posted September 20, 2008 You know what I though about using? Plumbing caps. They are black rubber and come in all sizes. They usually have a hose clamp to hold them on but they would just slide on for a dust cover application. They are thicker and im sure they could be painted. kpinnc 14,642 #4 Posted September 20, 2008 And just FYI Brian, the red ones are NLA from Toro. I guess most folks think the others are NLA as well. Oh well, the red ones don't fit right anyway.... Like Kelly said though, the beige and black ones are still available. Kevin
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,606 #5 Posted September 20, 2008 Kelly, Kevin, Would these covers from Toro fit a 753?
CasualObserver 3,411 #6 Posted September 20, 2008 Glenn Petit is working on getting approval from Toro to make reproductions. See this post over at WheelHorse.org http://www.wheelhorse.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=
Kelly 1,033 #7 Posted September 20, 2008 Glenn used a set of NOS red caps, with the horse head, that I loaned him, he just showed me the molds a week or so ago, they will be nice, and he is making the center caps for the 753, 552, ect.... steering wheels. and the old stlye hood knobs, they are nice and NLA, the ones you get from toro are the new style, I think Joe Papke is selling the steering caps on Ebay, I got a couple from Glenn they are nice also. And yes the beige caps will fit and I belive would be correct for it. I have 2 tractors with red caps but they don't have the horse head on them? any idea's if they are factory? :banghead:
Brian1045 28 #8 Posted September 24, 2008 I found another solution for dust covers today. I had a couple of the MTD, Lowes J. Deeres, Murry etc. dust covers laying around. you know the ones...the soft plastic kind that comes on all lower end mowers. If you put a 1 1/8" washer behind the stock washer and the main bolt of your WH wheel assembly, the dust covers will slide right on the hub and snap onto the 1 1/8" washer. I posted a pic in "works in progress" forum. Mine were originally yellow I just painted them white using gloss Rustoleum White. They took about 6 hrs to dry enough to handle...but I'm happy with the result. Brian
Sarge 3,465 #9 Posted September 24, 2008 I just got two sets of the beige colored caps from PartsTree.com yesterday , they look good on the 1277 but the red ones w/horse logo would certainly be better . They do blend in quite well with the Wimbledon White on the wheels , almost disappear . BTW, anyone know if the WH front weights clear those caps enough not to interfere ? I've got a set coming later this week for the old girl , nearly flipped it last week mowing ... Sarge
