hbrooks49 12 #1 Posted May 5, 2014 I found these 2 items (1 broken) on my mower deck - I believe they are related to the PTO. The snap ring is 32120-62 I think but I have no idea what the broken part is. There are no markings but it took a lot of force to twist the steel to the point of fracture. Can someone tell me what it is ???' I have a nice diagram of the bits and pieces showing the order in which they are assembled. I have the 1979 service manual which shows how to adjust the PTO on a "C". Is there anywhere that gives instructions on how to rebuild one or is it pretty self evident once I get it off ?? Also- I have mowed my 3/4 acre lawn several times since discovering these parts and the PTO works just fine - any ideas why ??? Last but not lease will all PTO's coming off any of the "C" series fit my C-105 ???? Thanks for any information you can provide - love my Wheelhorse and this is the first real repair it's needed since I got it two years ago....
ol550 830 #2 Posted May 5, 2014 Post a pic of the PTO bell where the stub shaft goes into the bearing.
hbrooks49 12 #3 Posted May 5, 2014 Tried to add verbage after I uploaded pics, sorry - I will figure this out eventually
ol550 830 #4 Posted May 5, 2014 Not real pretty. The snap ring goes in the end of the bell to hold the bearing in. My guess is the end of the spring got turned and wore the housing away. If the bearing stays in the housing you will be ok. If not you will be looking for a different bell.
hbrooks49 12 #5 Posted May 5, 2014 Yes, it looks chewed up and I couldn't find anywhere with a groove to put the snap ring back in. I'm also a little hesitant to take it apart because I am not certain it's going to go back together. Would the housing itself be shot - and if that were the case would the best bet be to buy a used one ? There is one on ebay that came off a C-175 - would that fit? I know these are rookie questions but I've never tinkered with these things before.- suggestions appreciated.
ol550 830 #6 Posted May 5, 2014 As for myself, I would not worry too much about it if the bearing doesn't move in the housing. It will take a little cross-checking to see if the 175 would be the same. If you find you need the housing, There are lots of RedSquare members with spare parts. Just post in the wanted section. hbrooks49 12 #7 Posted May 5, 2014 Thank you very much for the information - yes, I can cross check on PartsTree, but it is probably just a lot easier to deal with RedSquare members as that's what we are here for ...
bmsgaffer 2,053 #8 Posted May 5, 2014 The bell off the 175 would work, it is only the hoop that would be the wrong size.
