re-powering a 1057

I am thinking about putting a 12HP Kohler in my 1057 but am wondering if it is even possible or plausible?

What do you guys think?

Absolutley it will fit. Mine has a 12hp k301 in it. I think that they are Exactly the same size. (as the 10hp)

The only difference between a K241 and a K301 of the same era is what's different internally. Bore size, valves, crankshaft, etc...

Of course, you'll need to be sure the K301 you plan to use has the same type ignition system as the 241 you already have. Otherwise, there will be some major electrical issues to work out. Not 100% sure you can simply remove all the electrical components from the 241 and just bolt onto the k301, but you SHOULD be able to, providing they are of the same era...

BUT, as far as "if it will fit", the answer is yes. Any K301 will fit the tractor.

your 1057 is gen. start, and most 12hp are gear start, but that is easily changed, or adapted, make sure they use the same style oil pan, there are 2 diff. one's, one has ear's the other is square, your 1057 has the ears.

OK here's the thing. I have been trying to buy a K301 from a guy on CL for a few days. Would not give me serial numbers or even a price. Wanted me to drive the 40 miles to check out what he has.

Well, He finally got me some numbers. It is a K241A NOT a K301. with a serial number of 3116468.Which is what I wanted anyway. Still won't give me a price. Comes without carb or Starter generator. No problem tho because I have the parts off of my other 241.

So going by the serial number will I be able to use his motor with my carb and startwer gen?

I cannot find a palce to look up the serial number

I found a K214 motr for my 1057 but want to make sure it will work in my tractor.

The serial number is 2046539

Spec number 45660D

The original motor is K241S

serial B252133

spec 46333D

So what do you guys think.

I made a mistake with the numbers. The spec # is 46560D. I cannot find any of these numbers anywhere. :banghead:

It's off a Jacobsen. Don't have a clue on whether it will fit your tractor. :banghead:

Crank shaft size can be diff. cubs and JD's use mostly 1" cranks not sure about jac's
