This years show putt-putter

Sparky

I usually bring my GT-1600 to shows for tooling around but its way to "new" and gets no looks or respect from the old iron guys. This year I'm going to be on a newly acquired 1054 that I have been tinkering with this spring. I have her running great and it looks ok from 20 feet. I still have to get decals for her to be finished but its usable as is now. I do have the missing headlight lens, just need the O-ring to install it securely. Not totally sold on the stack yet :scratchead:  .

I also need to decide what to do with the rims, I might deviate from the standard almond color :hide:  .

Take off the stack and make a small set of ZOOMIES!  :)

Some times I guess you can go a bit too far getting ready for a show. I decided to give Ezra some shine as the hood looked like the p.o. had tried some repaint work at one point. I got a nice shine but under the top layers of that old paint I found what look like  acid rain spots. AND THEY AINT COMIN OFF!!!!!  :banghead: I'm just about sick over it too!

That's exactly where I'm leaning. Gloss black with a ring of shiny silver paint to simulate a trim ring on all 4 rims.

Those 1054 Headlight o-rings should be replaced every 10-25 years or so, they tend to dry up, shrink and crack, then the headlight lens falls out and is lost.

Never use any petroleum-based lubs on neoprene rubber - - - mineral oil or vegetable oil is best.  (#228 Buna-N 70 o-rings, 2.5OD" x .13"CS).

When reinstalling an old lens, it's smart to clean and then fine-sand (400 grit) the area where the o-ring will be.

Scratches on the lens can be removed with very fine sandpaper (800, 1,000, 1,500 grit), brushed with toothpaste or Putz (rubbing compound), cleaned, then polished with a car lens wax and buffed.  Super-Glue can repair deep scratches, nicks and even cracks in these lenses and hardly be noticeable.  A good buffing will reduce the cloudiness from aging, if it's yellowish, nothing can be really be done for that.

Stop by my booth at the Big Show, ask and I'll give you a pair of the correct o-rings for your new toy.

Nice looking 1054,    Glen
