Hodge71 665 #1 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) Project update... hydro lines back on the tractor...everything reinstalled and took her for a ride last night and beat the snot out of it coming up some big long steep hills around the farm and the leak is just about stopped. I would say 99% effective on the silver braze job stopping the leak. Put the big 60 inch deck under her and cut some grass with her. I'd say it did ok for about 2 minutes and then the deck blew right off her. I didn't have the lift linkage hooked up and I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it but it pulled right out of the mid tach-a-matic. I need to figure out what the deal is with it. I can't believe not having the linkage is the issue. I wonder if a 400 pound deck is just too much for this style tach-a-matic or is it that because its a foot longer that it increases the torsional stresses on the mid tach-a-matic? I'm getting discouraged again with this stinkin' thing. I know I need a belt 1-2 inches longer and I'll get the mid lift hooked up and see where it goes from there. Rain pretty much everyday this week so its gonna be tough ....The C-160 with the 42" RD may end up being it the primary mower for the 6 acres. I hope to figure it out by next week before the grass is a foot tall....maybe the "FOR SALE" section of the classified is its next stop.... JackC 617 #2 Posted April 27, 2014 I have two D-160s that I use at two different properties. I use the D-160 as a yard tug to plow, move trailers and docks around, and just ride around on. The mower decks I have for them are 48 inch decks and they work fine. There is also a 60 inch shaft driven pull behind finish mower that runs off the rear rotating PTO if you have that. If you have a 60 inch belly mower I see no reason why it would not work fine as they do on the smaller lighter duty 520H tractors. I do not consider a D-160 a mowing machine for me since I have better mowing machines, but, if set up properly, you should have no problems with it. I have 520s with 60 inch decks and those are monster mowing machines that will hands down out mow a D-160 at least in my opinion. Be patient with it, hook things up properly, and you should get there. The D Series strong points are the weight and bulk and the three point hitch on the back if you have it. I was going to buy a loader for one of my Ds but I decided to invest in a 4 wheel drive compact tractor instead and I am on the look out for one,
