nylyon-(Admin) 7,121 #1 Posted April 24, 2014 The 414 is still outfitted for Winter duty and a quick look at some parts of the lawn today showed that it REALLY needed a mowing. Thankfully the 416 was just waiting for the chance to come out of the shed. While it's quick to change over attachments, it's even faster having more than one! So guys, if you only have one, you need to start looking!
jdleach 525 #2 Posted April 24, 2014 I think I would have to agree. In my introductory post, I said I had just gotten a 312-8, but have long had a Commando V7. While the Commando is in REALLY bad shape, I am beginning to envision restoring it, and using it to mow my home here in town. It's small size is better suited to zipping around all the flower beds, trees, etc. The 312 could then be moved to my other property out in the country to mow that quite large lot. groundhog47 347 #3 Posted April 24, 2014 Rub it in, I'm trying to get 2nd goin', Ha, that is perfect reason for 3rd or fourth, just dreamin' I guess. Every time I put mine up the mower won't go in shed so have to rx deck. That thing gets heavier each time it seems.
squonk 38,952 #4 Posted April 24, 2014 Same thing applies to winter. 1 for plowing 1 for blowing and a short framer for fun!

leeave96 487 #8 Posted April 24, 2014 Back when I had a brain, i had the 2 tractor plan. I had a gear drive 314-8 and a hydro via a 520H. The routine was Summer = both tractors had mowing decks. Fall = One tractor with mowing deck, one tractor with snow blade Winter = One tractor had snow blade, one tractor had snow blower Spring = One tractor had mowing deck, one tractor had snow blade. So through out the year, I had the grass covered when it was really growing in the summer, grass/snow covered in the fall and spring when I could mow one day and have snow the next day and winter was covered for the smaller snows via the blade and blower for the larger snows. With all this, I had the gear vs hydro thing covered. I had a back-up tractor at all time - which BTW, all implements interchange (and lots of tractor parts too - if necessary). I said at the beginning I had a 2 tractor plan when I had a brain. Now I've got a fleet of tractors and sometimes it's a chore to keep up with all of them LOL!!!!! Jns tractor 22 #9 Posted April 24, 2014 First post for me , just sold a c-120 last weekend now I'm down to 2 ,a 3-12 -8 that won't die and a 3-14-8 that still shines like new , but now I'm feeling a little insecure. I'm already looking for a back-up for my back-up.

doc724 924 #11 Posted April 24, 2014 Once I saw the topic heading, I knew this was going to be an entertaining thread. I whole heartedly agree, but that does not stop my wife from giving me grief every time she catches me trolling the CL ads!

Butch 194 #14 Posted April 25, 2014 The Wheelhorse implements are so stinking heavy that's reason alone to have multiple tractors. I hate swapping those attachments out. I have one tractor for the mower deck and center-mount grader blade and another tractor for the snowplow and moldboard plow. I'd like to get another C-85 so the grader and mower deck have their own tractors.
ericj 1,576 #15 Posted April 25, 2014 yea i have back ups for the back ups. my problem is i have several tractors that have under or around 500 hrs and i find my self trying to keep the hrs down on them. i think of it as low mileage car, but that's also why i have my workers, and even the low hr ones need exercised once in a while right............. eric j
cruisnblue48 783 #16 Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) The wife says one tractor is one too many. I say one more is never enough as I now own eight Wheel Horses. So, the law of Wheel Horse addiction says that if there is more floor space in the garage or shed, there is another Wheel Horse tractor somewhere just dying to occupy that space. Although all of my round hoods are basically show tractors, I only have one real worker with my 314-8. So, I really do need to find a back up worker. A 520H would be next on my wish list at this point. Edited April 25, 2014 by cruisnblue48
JackC 616 #17 Posted April 25, 2014 There is never any down time at my place. These are some of my backups for my backups. I have enough tractors to never have to put gas in the same tank more than once a year.
posifour11 723 #18 Posted April 25, 2014 I started with a "mower", then learned more about implements. I then started looking for enough tractors for my implements. Now, I'm looking for enough implements for my tractors....

I restored two tractors, 416-8 and a 520-H. I planned to sell the 520, but its now my mower. The 416 is so good at snow removal, I leave the cab on it and we use it for winter activities. I think the 416 will be getting some fresh paint this year and possibly 4 new tires and rear wheel weights.
