Lagersolut 613 #1 Posted April 21, 2014 My 2005 classic GT is driving me crazy - acted like the solenoid was bad, replaced it, same problem - juice everywhere, but not the starter when turned to start - seat switch- reverse shut off- both jump wired shut - neutral switch checked good for continuity - I have over 12 volts coming out of the start terminal on the ignition into the relays but nothing at the starter side solenoid ( this problem comes and goes - had to quit looking ... decided to start working again tonight ) I can hear the relays " clicking " when turned to start - . I'm no electrician by any stretch , do have a multimeter and can do the basics - right now I'm wondering what and where else to look - cross solenoid terminals - fires right up . Any ideas where this circuit is open ( at times ) not starting ?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,511 #2 Posted April 22, 2014 Here is a detailed wiring diagram. The starter circuit has it's own diagram making it easier to trace. Garry
Lagersolut 613 #3 Posted April 22, 2014 Thank you Gary , I was going off the full wiring diagram diagram in the owners manual making it very difficult to isolate the starter circuit it start mode ....that's the ticket
bmsgaffer 2,043 #4 Posted April 22, 2014 I had a bad PTO interlock switch on one that cause intermittent starts (with clicking) It was on an older C series, but since that was the one safety switch you didnt mention, I thought it would be worth a look. Lagersolut 613 #5 Posted April 22, 2014 I had a bad PTO interlock switch on one that cause intermittent starts (with clicking) It was on an older C series, but since that was the one safety switch you didnt mention, I thought it would be worth a look. This newer model has a PTO lock-out too, I was having a hard time deciphering which terminals needed to be checked for continuity , the owners manual diagram is very confusing and the thing decided to start working again - I'm down to that or the parking switch- if they check good I don't know where else to go but the relays - it has 4, not going to be easy to find - the PDF file Gary posted has the circuits broke down in separate diagrams for " run " start " " off " etc.
squonk 38,983 #6 Posted April 22, 2014 Doesn't take much dirt/ corrosion on one of these tractor terminals to cause a problem. I've even seen where the corrosion starts at a terminal and gets inside the wire insulation
Lagersolut 613 #7 Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) Something listed on the parts list as a " clutch module " # 15 , does anyone know exactly what this does ? http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=toro_consumer&mn=73450%2C+GT+Classic+Garden+Tractor%2C+2005+%28SN+250000001-250999999%29&dn=3353-258-_7440019-00017 Edited April 23, 2014 by Golds-Red
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,511 #8 Posted April 23, 2014 Started to upload the complete manual the detailed wiring diagram came from. The modules are explained in the Glossary now posted Garry
Lagersolut 613 #9 Posted May 4, 2014 Update: Finally found it , after weeks of chasing this intermittent problem, tearing the tractor apart only to have it start working just as I'm ready to chase wires etc ... took me right where I started - the neutral switch ....the switch itself was working - the plug connecting it to the wiring harness was bad .....for whatever reason the plug had a lot of slop in the connection even when it was locked together creating a dead spot ......cut it out and installed new plugs . This was not an easy find - thanks for the wiring diagrams Gary - .. really helped me narrow this down.
